If there is no intention of competing at AAU nationals in that division, what is the purpose of being in that particular tournament? I understand wanting to compete at a higher level if you are more than capable. But why take away a bid for nationals from another Kentucky team? There are plenty of other tournaments and showcases in which they could have competed at the 10th grade level. Not sure I agree with entering a tournament that many teams enter to vie for a bid to nationals when the intention to continue was never there.

 

 

I believe Legacy played in the tournament to test it's best against the other programs out of NKY.

 

They will not be taking a bid a way from any of those teams that entered the tournament for AAU Nationals. Bids to AAU Nationals are granted by the number of teams that compete in a given grade division and any team that does not use their bid then that bid would go back into the pool for other teams to use.

There are some issue with how the AAU Tournament was run this weekend as it did not follow the rules that AAU post for that age group. Simple things like a 30 second shot clock, and play in games for the 3/4 and 5/6 teams for the final spots to Div 1 and Div 2 for Nationals.

I have no problem with them playing up either if they are intending to compete at nationals at that level as well. They are more than capable and have proven so. I just don't understand the logic of playing up and taking an opportunity away from another team that may have needed to place at the state tournament to get a bid to nationals. Maybe they will give up their bid and pass it on. I was just curious as to their intentions.

Secondly, WOW! Are you really criticizing a team for playing 2 grades up in a DIVISION 1 STATE tournament and "taking bids away" from 10th grade division 1 caliber teams?????? What have we come to? This group should be applauded for moving up to be challenged and not trophy hunting In their own age group....WHICH IS TWO YEARS YOUNGER!!! I really can't believe someone would actually bring this up. Beat them if you want the bid. It's that simple. They are two years younger than you!!!!

If it's the team I think it's Ally Niece (Scott), Lexi Held (Cooper), Mackenzie Schwarber (Campbell County) just to name the ones I know. A really, really good team.

 

The more I see Lexi Held play , the more I see her working her way up to be one of the Best in the State. I love the way she plays on both sides of the ball , total package !:thumb:

Playing up and beating teams two years older makes your team better...period. As far as the comment that they took that opportunity from another team; they took it because the 10th grade teams couldn't beat their 8th grade team. I personally applaud them for playing up and winning the state tourney.

I was amazed watching Lexi Held play at Cooper this year. She was mature way beyond her years.

I made it very clear that they did a great job and are a great team. I have no issue with them playing up or winning AT ALL! My question was their intent....that's it. Many teams use the state tournament as their only opportunity at a bid for nationals. So if they can compete and nationals is here in Cincinnati, why not go?

And MANY teams play in the state with no intentions of going to the nationals. And really it's their business where or if they go. My guess is if their schedule is open, then they may play. But they could very easily be scheduled somewhere else already or have the nationals for their age group the same weekend. It's up to them and what their goals are as a team. They seem to be doing things right, so why question them?

 

And Lexi Held is the real deal. I hope she keeps growing and getting better. Great kid!

When they are playing up two grade levels, absolutely! But if they were playing in their grade level and tried to play d1 and d2, no way. Completely different. But nice try!

Lets please not turn this into something negative. I coach for one of the teams that Legacy beat. They are a great team and we simply got beat. I give them all the credit in the world for being a 8th grade team and competing at that level. They are very well coached and great players. I would like to celebrate the fact that the 3 teams left standing at the end were all from NKY and I think that speaks a lot to the direction girls basketball in NKY is going. There are a lot of good people putting in a lot of hard work to advance the level of girls basketball in our area and all these girls have worked very hard.

Personally I would like to see this game played many more times. Why not at nationals?
