Exec we must be talking about 2 different teams. The 8th grade team is not undersized and from talking with people, as I states earlier, they did run thru 4 or 5 d1 older teams in the Deep South. I think their only loss was to a fla team that took a d1 talent rich Alabama team to the wire.

I do disagree that their is a 100% across the board that d2 teams cannot compete with d1. Their are plenty of d2 teams that should be d1 and I'm sure vice Versa. Some bite off more than they can chew

My daughter plays for the current 7th grade shining stars. I would ask that if the 8th grade was able to run through them in the Deep South, why would they play d2

If you go back and read my orig post on this thread then you will realize that was my question. Why aren't they?

Why is the 8th Grade Shinning Stars team making a claim and comparing themselves to the Legacy Elite 2018 team that has played and earned it's ranking? The title of the thread talks about Legacy Elite winning the D1 10th grade title against the best players from the talented class of 2016. Legacy's Elite 2018 Team deserves the praises it has earned by playing on the court not posting how they deserve to be considered a top team on this thread. If you want to compare yourself to Legacy then why are you are playing D2 step up and play D1 that's where Legacy Elite will be playing.

 

AAU National posted it's power rankings for the 2018 class prior to this years tournament last week and 4 of the top 15 teams in the Country are with in 60 miles of Downtown Cincinnati: 5-Cincinnati Finest, 11- Dayton Lady Hoopsters, 12- Bridgette Williams All-stars, 13 - Legacy Elite........

The way I see it, no team should be put on a pedestal or place themselves along side a team unless they've won or tied in a head to head game!! If you think your team is better then prove it!! If you're not willing to play same division, tourney & head to head game then zip it!! Amazes me how the "adults" are always the ones to compare & boast while these young girls just want to play the game they love to play winning or losing!!

You can qualify for any division based on your finishes at the different Super regionals held through out the spring. Those Super regionals hand out bids to Nationals based on the Number of teams entered into each event. To be eligible to play at Nationals you must play in a District Qualifier if your AAU team is based out of KY that qualifier is the State Tournament you can play either D1 or D2. For a bid to Nationals a team can finish 3rd in a Super Regional would give them a D1 bid based on teams then they must play in the State Tournament. They can finish last in the State Tournament and still play in D1 at Nationals. The long story is if your team plays in a Super Regional and the State tournament and Earn a D1 bid you can pick which division you want to play in. YOU MUST PLAY IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY AT NATIONALS!!!!!

In my original post on here I stated that shining star 8th jones has similar talent to legacy elite. I'm sorry if that offends anyone. Secondly, all the arguments of why they played div 2 were answered in my second post on here. They played div 2 because they have 4 new players on the team and unless you are a guru coach, it takes time to mesh as a team with that many new players. That's where I said legacy has the edge. They have had the same group for 3 or 4 years. Remember we are talking about 13-14 yr old girls (at least on this team). We don't have any 15 yr old 8th graders. And as far as being "put on a pedestal along side another team unless they have tied or played head to head", let me clue you in on something. They were invited to play a tournament at Midwest hoops by legacy. After they destroyed legacy's "B" team they were scheduled to play the elite team. The elite team pulled out of the tournament. I am not the spokesman for the team but I know for a fact that all the coaches and players without exception would love the opportunity to play them. This team isn't dodging anyone. This will all probably be a pointless argument next year because I am confident this team will play div 1. Regardless of everything I have nothing but the up most respect for legacy's elite team. The main point I was trying to make was that between the two teams is a lot of the best talent in the 2018 class in Northern Ky.

Point taken & sorry if my comment offended you! My granddaughters have not played AAU basketball so that is why I am unfamiliar with how they decide D1 vs D2. I am familiar with how that is decided in soccer & both of my granddaughters play for KHA D1 teams. While they may have a losing record for season, playing in multiple D1 tourneys prepares them for Regional & National tourneys. (Both teams won State & Regional tourney!) At no time did I hear anyone mention moving down a division just to have a winning season. Of course, I also never heard anyone comparing the talent of a U13 team to a U14 team either. Unless teams play head to head, I just don't think it is necessary to say one team could beat or is better than the other especially a younger team vs older team. That of course is just my preference & many may not agree.

What the comparison does prove is NKY is loaded with young talent in girls basketball!! For every girl that plays AAU, there are also talented players that choose not to play AAU for money or time reasons. I am a former basketball referee & saw first hand players just in rec leagues that had just as much if not more talent than some on AAU teams, but for whatever reason they chose not to play AAU. This area brings forth alot of talent!! No matter what age or what team a girl plays on, we should all remember why a young player is playing this sport....because they LOVE it & THEY want to just play it!!! I can't tell you the number of young players I've seen that were destined to be stars at the high school level that session by session you would see the spark fade because they were no longer playing a game they loved but were instead playing because a parent demanded they play on a certain team or pushed to play 1 or 2 grades ahead!! I'm certain that everyone reading this has seen this type of situation at least once while watching their child's basketball career!! Girls are very impressionable at this age & don't need any extra pressure or stress placed on them! Hearing parents talk about this team or that player is better only causes issues with confidence which in turn WILL effect how they play!! If your kids team wins an older D1 tourney, that's awesome but it doesn't require a comparison to another team is the same or different division!!

I totally agree FastForward. .like I said I wasn't comparing the two teams I was just pointing out that in my opinion some of the best talent in the class of 2018 play for those two teams.

This team is very good However, there is a team in Northern Ky. That is very similar talent wise at their grade level. The team is made up of 5 players from SK, 2 from Grant County, 1 from Holmes, and 1 from St.Ursela (Oh.) I really hope to see them play each other soon.

 

Sounds like you are comparing them in your original post. Legacy Elite added 4 new players to this years roster and they have never used adding new players as an excuse or justification. The comment about made about this years tournament schedule and about Legacy Elite pulling out of playing you that's total bull. (I set their schedule) I don't recall your team playing in the Super Regional at Midwest held in March and you would have had play up in the high school division to have been able to play them. The only 8th grade division tournament that Legacy Elite played in this year was D1 State (I don't recall your team playing in either 8th grade division at the State Tournament this Year) the rest of their schedule had them playing in 9th or 10th grade divisions at tournaments.

 

The comment you made about destroying Legacy second team. Your team and Legacy's second team played in 3 tournaments and they didn't meet on the court in any of those tournaments. I think Legacy 2 actually finished higher at GBA Nationals than your team.

 

I hope this debate is over now. The 2018 class has a lot of talent and will be exciting to watch as they enter High School. The topic of this thread again was that a 2018 team won the 10th grade D1 Tournament. I hope that everyone can now stop talking about where they believe other teams compare against them. Start a new post with that opinion next time so you don't take the focus away from what Legacy Elite earned to promote your beliefs.

Hey guys, I don't have a kid on either team. It seems like this post is one that isn't going to die anytime soon. As a parent that has had kids play aau sports it's hard to compare any aau teams at any level due to the fact that a lot of the good teams have older kids on them. With aau age requirments there could be 15 or 16 year olds on these teams. Teams with 13 on 14 year olds would have a hard time matching that maturity. Sports today is almost like kids picking coleges with the moving of kids from one school to another. So god bless both teams and remember it's only a game, that is meant for the kids to have fun.

My thoughts exactly!! My other question is how many of these young players are asking to play up whether age, grade, team or school level? I personally have never encountered a situation where a 12-13-14 yr old kid is begging to play up all on their own!! It's "parental influence" that creates the scenerio, so who is playing the game...the parent or the kid??
