I will say that I've seen quality coaches take over winless programs and turn them around in one season. Maybe not playoff quality but they'll win 3-4 and be competitive in the rest. The best case I've seen is when Valdosta HS ran Mike O'Brien off because he didn't win state and he took over a team that had gone 0-20 the two previous years and went 5-5 the first year and made the playoffs his 3rd year going 8-3 so it can be done.

But you're right about players being the #1 factor. You can't win without talent. I've seen coaches go 0-10 at one school and then turn around at their next school and roll off 3 straight state championship.

Georgia is a whole different animal!! Especially Valdosta HS!! Apples to raisins in comparing KY to GA. LOL

For some of those schools, it is demographics... For some, it is an issue of resources. I am not arguing it CAN'T be done - I am arguing that to just say "Hire better coaches, to include actual strength & conditioning coaches, engage nutrient specialists & speed trainers to help players get bigger, faster and more athletic" is a gross oversimplification, and ignores the socioeconomic realities of much of the state.

 

Also I wrote "That isn't a realistic option for MOST school districts." I don't think the ten you have listed really disproves my statement.

How come Boyle Co, FT Highlands, Belfry, Lou Central, Collins, Bowling Green, Simon Kenton, Scott County, Mayfield, Paducah Thighman can do it? All from different school district, all public schools, all consistant winners year in and year out. ALL have great coaches/ asst coaches. It's not impossible if you invest on the program and buy into the system.
