May 5, 201412 yr I have read recently some rumblings about bringing casinos to KY. I am finding mixed articles on the house bill itself, so I will not post it. Here is an article I found on Fox-19 website. Personally I am for it. It will greatly help our state economy. Portions of the casinos proceeds would go to roads and schools, as well as, create jobs, not only in the casinos, but in construction as well. May 5, 201412 yr The thing that infuriates me is that they don't put it to a vote of the people. At the very least treat it like alcohol sales. If a county wants to have it then let them vote on it independently from the others. I can't imagine why they don't forward that option.

Look at Indiana and even now, Ohio. Their schools were in pretty bad shape. I did a walkthrough of a school in Indiana that had upgrades from casino profits, and it was sharp.

Given this colorful and rich history its a shame we do not have some level of Casino gambling here. David Williams lead the fight. His divorce records showed his efforts had nothing to do with the good of Kentucky. Its more than a shame that he we successful in mus-representing the reason for his opposition.

May 5, 201412 yr I visited the new Beltara Racino at River downs yesterday. I'm sending flowers to Turfway. The end is near for them if they don't do something. The racino was not overly crowded yesterday, but I'm sure that may be a little Derby hangover.
May 5, 201412 yr Look at Indiana and even now, Ohio. Their schools were in pretty bad shape. I did a walkthrough of a school in Indiana that had upgrades from casino profits, and it was sharp. Anyone who has ever had their kid play Summer Ball (Baseball) and had tournaments in Indiana, have seen how immaculate their ball fields are and their schools. The money that goes into their schools makes a huge difference. These ball fields are nicer than many college ball fields.
May 5, 201412 yr I visited the new Beltara Racino at River downs yesterday. I'm sending flowers to Turfway. The end is near for them if they don't do something. The racino was not overly crowded yesterday, but I'm sure that may be a little Derby hangover. Was there for the Derby Saturday. Solid crowd, took about 20 minutes to get into the parking lot when we arrived (3:30ish). Left about 15 minutes after the Derby ended, and we were on 275 5 minutes later. Was shocked at how well they had traffic moving. Casino looked nice, the race track and stands were very nice, which is to be expected when something is only 3 days old I guess. :lol2:

Sounds great. But my original intent was this: What will keep this new influx of money from being siphoned off by the government the way the Lottery money has been?

Not sure where they could put one in Kentucky that I'd frequent. It's a 10 minute drive from NKY to Horseshoe, and only a 25 minute drive to Hollywood. Can't imagine they put one in that would be more convenient. Not sure how close the rest of the state is to casinos though.

Only thing that seems off was how small the grand stands are.

They own various casinos in Vegas. Wow, Covington is one of the few places that would in fact be closer than Horseshoe or Hollywood. :lol2: That location is about a 3-5 minute drive from my work. I could get in a lot of trouble if they put one there.
