I have no problem "Giving" opportunities to anyone, after all opportunities mean NOTHING. It's what individuals/teams Do With Opportunities that matter.

 

Just like in the real world, you may get a job opportunity because you know someone. But your success is tied to what you do with that opportunity not the fact that you got it.

The playoff system is already watered down enough with allowing 4 teams per district in. It should only be the 1st and 2nd place teams in the playoffs. Anymore than that is ridiculous to me.

 

With it being six classes I agree or atleast have it where only three make it. If it was still at four classes then four making it per district was fine. I just like the sense of accomplishment teams can feel by making the playoffs then because even if you lose in the firat round it was still special because you earned the right to make it. If you automatically make it then it takes away how special making the playoffs should be and basically just another game.

To do that the optimum math is 4 Class, 8 regions with 7 or 8 teams per district. Then have a 3 week Regional and a 3 week State tournament. Drop one of the regular season games so that are nine games. Teams play round robin in Regional - that fill out 6 or 7 teams each year. Teams only need to add 2 or 3 teams each year to the standard schedule - thus making scheduling easier.

 

But this fails at step 1 - go to 4 classes. Oh well.

This could also back up the regular season start date to that of around college, and what it used to be here years ago.....Labor Day weekend.

 

Somewhere along the way, some got the idea of..."Let's make the kids keep on wearing 20 pounds of gear, long pants included, and make it to where a 1/3 (of more of) the sport is played/practiced in 90+ degree heat indexes...and, all sit around and wonder why participation keeps dropping off?"
