Hopefully it improves as he grows as a major leaguer. His 23 CS were much higher than I'd have guessed. 2) Phillips has had a bad year. I can't wait to see how he is used in the off-season like, "....okay, we'll trade you Latos, but you have to take Phillips too...oh, and you have to convince him to accept it..." He is a problem in the clubby, and this year, not much of a solution on the field. 3) Got a lot of nothing from either of them. How excited are the Reds that the Players' Union convinced Bruce's agent to turn the down extension so he could hit the free agent market at 29? His value has plummeted and they would have been strapped into another bad deal. 4) Dead on. 5) I was clearly dead wrong; Cueto has been magnificent. 6) I was dead right...Latos, whom I'm a fan of, has made very little impact this year. 7) The guy who just got PAID doesn't have 10 wins. He isn't .500, to be fair, but certainly wasn't a huge factor. 8) Mike Leake is sub .500 with an ERA close to 4 (3.78). 9) By and large I was wrong...Chappy has been very good. 10) Win again. 11) I look like Nostradamus. 12) Sadly, I wasn't.
September 25, 201411 yr Right, so I stand by my statement. I get what your saying. He needs to get on base more we all know that. The pitching and rest of the team is good enough to win 90 games in that division when healthy. I think the last few years proved that. This team has flaws and will have issues going forward but the core right now is decent. Assuming Votto will be healthy again is a big assumption. I think you are overlooking the elephant in the room. That elephant is the fact that this team can not keep it's starting pitching together which has been the only true bright spot on this team. After paying Homer what they paid him last off season there is no way this team can keep both Latos and Cueto and may even lose both. The hitting is what it's been for years and that is bad - horrible. The entire left side of their lineup needs to be better at the plate. Now I will admit that Frazier had a much better yar (or half a year) than I ever expected, yet he disappeared after the All star game. We have a SS, Left Field and 3Rd baseman along with 2nd baseman that can't hit. We have a right fielder so streaky I still don't know what we have in Bruce. This team has nothing in the minors to help them and without the starting pitching I see many more years like this one on the horizon.
September 25, 201411 yr ^ Agreed. The core is mentioned as being decent. I think a lot of people including team management are overestimating the talent of the core players. I really don't think Votto will come close to matching his MVP season. Bruce is crazy inconsistent. BP? who knows? Those are the big 3 as far as payroll and I will be surprised if the Reds get anything but mediocre production from them. The state of the farm system is quite alarming. I'm not sure how they right the ship. I think the problem is they don't realize the ship is listing severly.

Several had St. Louis in first and Cubs in last but the second, third, and fourth places were switched. Most had the Reds in second or third and the Brewers fourth. Most were too optimistic on the Reds with one notable exception of course.
