February 28, 201412 yr Everyone should be preparing now for this storm. I just took a quick glance at this morning's runs. WOW! Cincinnati/NKY right now 4-6 inches. What has me worried is parts of Kentucky. All of WKY through Lexington to Emerson, Ky. This narrowing band is center on the Bluegrass PKWY. Get ready. It is showing .50-.75" of ice!!! :scared: I'll give updates as soon as I can. Do you know how that compares with the ice storm that occurred in January of 2009. I can't remember how much ice we had but there was a ton of damage from fallen trees, etc. Some parts of WKY didn't get power back for up to three weeks. Hopefully this is less than we had then.

Hopefully this is less than we had then. 1.0-1.5 of ice that year. My parents were without power for 3 weeks. I was lucky my power was only out for 6 days.

My daughter and my now son-in-law were both students at Murray State during that storm. They still talk about it from time to time. Two weeks later we went down to check on her and we couldn't believe the damage all along the WKY and in Murray. Give me snow any day over ice!

It was brutal. some roads were completely covered with tress and limbs.
February 28, 201412 yr Great. I already have a tree in my front yard that was damaged by the last freezing rain/ice we got. We haven't been able to get out there and cut it down yet. It may just come down on it's own this time and it's right by my power lines.

The span of the storm totals for the Cincy region was 2-13" of snow between Sunday-Monday late afternoon. Their head meteorologist chose the low middle model which is forecasting 2-4" of snow on top of ice. Not sure on the ice accumulation. Hoping it's minimal. Thanks for what you do and looking forward to your guidance as we get nearer to Sunday night. :thumb:

That is why you get such a variance on snow fall totals. some meteorologist will use one or two models or their favorite ones. I look at the NAM, GFS, and ECMWF models for the future outlooks. as we get closer to the event. I use a multi model ensemble: 21 NCEP Short-Range Ensemble Forecast (SREF) members 1 NCEP North American Mesoscale (NAM) 12Z (day) or 00Z (night) operational run 1 NCEP Global Forecast System (GFS) 12Z (day) or 00Z (night) operational run 1 European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) latest operational run 1 Canadian Model (CMC) latest operational run 1 ECMWF latest ensemble mean 1 NCEP Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS) latest ensemble mean (6-h SLRs) 5 NCEP GEFS members, randomly selected I'll post the latest totals from this ensemble in a few. I like the trend the latest run show.

The ice amount seems to be going down. I'm going to go with the following right now. Cincinnati freezing rain .10-.25" Snow 4-6" NKY north of a line from Louisville to Ashland .10-.25" freezing rain 2-4" snow WKY freezing rain .10-.25" Snow 1-3" CKY freezing rain .10-.25" Snow 1-3" EKY and SEKY dusting to 2"
February 28, 201412 yr Author Just for fun here are the systems that will give us our weather this weekend as of this morning. As you can see we actually have two impulses and a strong low pressure system that will give us our weather Sunday-Monday. This morning the main low was still 500 miles off the cost of California.
