Region players of the year

Featured Replies

Do only seniors win region player of the year award?? Daulton Peters named 12th region player of the year. No disrespect to the kid bc he is a great player but I can think of 4 or 5 other players that should have won it. IMO it should hav went to any of these 5 players with Peters in the running:

Justin Edwards- SW

Hagen Tyler- BC

Ronnie Carson- EJ

Peyton Woods- Wayne Co

Daulton Peters- WJ

I could be wrong but I believe it is seniors only.

I'm assuming you are talking about the KABC Player of the Year - which is Seniors only.

Individual regional players of the year can be from any age group, OR as determined by that individual region's coaches association.

This topic is brought up every year, here is your answer. The KABC region player of the year is voted on by coaches and assitant coaches in each region that are MEMBERS of the KABC. The guidelines are only seniors are eligable and you cannot vote for a player from your own school. Coaches are asked to vote for a player of the year, runner up player of the year, and coach of the year. The Player of the Year and the Runner Up are eligable to play in the KABC East vs. West All Star game played on Saturday afternoon of the state tournament at Transy.

I cant speak for other regions but I know in the 11th we also have our own all region team consisting of 12 players. This is voted on by head coaches only. The player with the most votes is also named Player of the Year in the region.

The 12th Region does the same as the 11th Region.

1st Region has the All Purchase Team, top 10 regardless of class and top vote getter is Player of the Year. Only Head coaches get to vote.

First, I have to say that Peters deserves the honor of top senior in the 12th.

I think player of the year will go to Woods as he's putting up close to 26 PPG for the #7 team in the state. That doesn't mean that he's necessarily the best player or the first player I'd take if I was starting a team (he'd certainly be in the mix), but he's certainly deserving.

Purple Pride's pre-season top 10 and honorable mention have turned out to be excellent choices. When reviewing that list, there are others (besides the 5 mentioned above) that warrant being in that conversation. I think it's safe to say that some moved up (and others down), but the names were right. The first honorable mention was Dishman and I think one could argue he may have worked his way in. The problem is I don't see any player I'd drop out to create space.

Nice work PP!

Coaches also have to be paid members of the KABC to be eligible to vote and receive awards. Often times the best players are left off because the coach is not a paid member of the KABC. It only cost $20 to be a member and a $100 for a school up to 5 or 6 coaches. You woud be surprised many coaches are not members.
