First, I 100% believe coach Woolf should have gotten the job. And it make me sad and angry he didn't get it. With that being said I know Matt Turner. And right or wrong he does not make a decision that he does not think out and believe it is what is best for Ryle and their students. I know it must have been one of the hardest things he has ever done to look coach Woolf in the eye and tell him he didn't get the job. He knows how much coach Woolf loves Ryle, their students and football. I hope and pray coach Woolf stays at Ryle. I know how much the students and players love him. But I would understand if he does not stay. But if you really know Matt Turner, you would know he made this choice because he in his heart he believes it was the right one.

Earlier you indicated the loss of 2 dance coaches. So, I guess dance is a team sport and wrestling and the others are not? I have no idea what happened with dance coaching. As I said in another thread in the best imitation of Shakespeare from a non-intellectual person like myself: "How sour the grapes of one spurned!"

Coaches of Team Sports, 1-2 Dance Coaches, and at least 12 total coaches

in the last year. As a Ryle parent who has had to sit in the stands and listen

to parents scheme about writing letters, go to the BOE about getting coaches

fired, and then see it happen I can speak from experience as to what goes

on at Ryle. As a parent who teaches children to respect the coaches, adapt,

to the situation, and be a good teammate whether you are playing or not, to see

coaches fired because of the selfish personal wants of some is not sour grapes.

This is an issue that the innocent should not have to suffer because of. This administration

needs to look at what is best for all of the student-athletes and the message they are

sending when they fire coaches over the complaints off the loudest, most influential, and

obnoxious parents that will not go away. And some of the students

do know what their parents are doing. One of my children would come

home and tell me how players in class would brag about what their parents

were doing to a certain coach and how they were trying to get the coach fired.

If it is true that what went on that caused the Dance

Teacher/Coach to leave Ryle falls right in line when some things

happen at Ryle when there is controversy with students and parents.

Thank you, FTN, and it seems you have the same attitude. Let's get behind our students, coaches and administration. Parents, let the coaches coach, and when legitimate concerns arise, give the coach the first shot to address the issue! Isn't life grand? I think we have everything solved over lunch!! Hooray! Funny thing about America being a free country is, if you don't like the surroundings where you are, you always have the option of moving instead of imposing yourself on other people. Pay a private school then you have more say. Most of these coaches get paid very little, and some none. Volunteers help out of the kindness of their hearts. A few here and there are doing it for selfish reasons. To those people please take all your money and influence and move. Then again, being a free country maybe I will. I sure don't want my kids growing up thinking this is how you handle difficult situations.

I sat in the stands and was disappointed that I didn't get to see my son play ( as all parents do ). I rooted for the team anyway. When he got home he looked a little upset, so I asked him, " How did you like not getting on the field ?" His response was " It sucked. " I asked him, "whose fault was it ?" His response, "mine." I asked, " So what are you going to do about it ? " His response " Try harder ." I have never been prouder of him then than at that moment. He learned the lesson of life!

No not a complaining parent. You see I am different from the parents

I refer to in my post. Never went to the Superintendent or BOE or organized

a group of parents together to cause problems for the administrator at Ryle.

Instead I choose to allow my children to learn the intangible lessons from

sports and the politics involved because unfortunately that is how it is going

to be in the real world. In the end the administration's leadership or

lack of is what affects the atmosphere in the school and the overall

experiences of every student in the school. IMO, because of his lack of

leadership my children have seen a side of athletics that they should have

never seen. As far as an education due to the teachers in the school

it could not be better. The new coaches are all great coaches and

people and for the sake of the athletes involved I hope they get

the support they deserve. They will as long as they keep the

parents happy and out of Turner's office. That is my opinion

and I base that on what I have witnessed, and my children

have witnessed and experienced at Ryle.

More double talk. Excellent education but Matt Turner has nothing to do with it. Bad sports and Matt Turner has everything to do with it. Let's face it. You are a complainer about administration. Why don't you set a meeting with Matt instead of complaining on here and badmouthing Ryle in the process? (And, by the way from another post, there is not a high turnover rate at Ryle although a number of teachers retired. Matt shouldn't let people get old.)

And the plot thickens!

No drama, No plots

maybe we all need to spend more time worrying about what's happening in our country, our economy, our politicians.

I have a child who attends Ryle and in the future I will have two more that go through Ryle.

My child participates in Olympic style sports and is not really reliant on generating revenue.

 

With that being said, for those that think some of these Olympic sports are more individual and not team are kidding themselves. For one, I believe you would be hard pressed to find a school that fields the numbers for Olympic style sports that Ryle does. We are talking over 50 girls in cross country for the girls XC team roughly 30 for the boys. Then you have close to 150 for the track teams combined.

That takes a lot of coordinating and coaching. Coach Wiehbrink and Coach Deaton do a tremendous job with those teams.

 

In my dealings, with coaches and observing their interaction with administration, I feel that the administration is very hands off and lets the coaches do their jobs.

 

Now it is not the dog eat dog world of generating revenue like football is but there are a lot of things to consider. Football in Boone County is a different animal. This is just my opinion and I may be totally off base...but I think I have a good eye for what is good coaching and something that is in place for the benefit of kids and an eye for something that is built for something else other than the benefit of kids or putting kids and development first. The Boone County Pee Wee Football League to me is a racket or it once was when I participated there years ago. That is a program that is seemingly built to make a profit and when you are hellbent on making profits you are going to bring in as many people to help and raise those funds. This brings in people to coach that probably aren't the best coaches and then they go forth and think their opinion/voice is of much more value because they are coaching. I may be totally off base on this and may get hammered for this opinion, but it is just that. I have been removed for a while from the BCPWFL, but at that time I was participating as a volunteer there, they were bleeding money and I couldn't see how that was possible.

 

Then they started a middle school league between the schools so I am not real sure how that has impacted BCPWFL or if it has led to many more voices to be heard regarding football in Boone County, and in particular Ryle.

 

From what I understand, Coach Warner was not a teacher and was a para professional. It has to be very hard for one not to be in the hallways everyday interacting with kids and staff and run a organized program top to bottom and not be in a teaching type position at the school you are coaching at...especially one that is high profile like the Ryle job is. I would think this played a bigger part in the parting of ways than many of the conspiracies that people have thrown out there.

 

In then end, administration has to make decisions on what is best for kids. Maybe Ryle was looking for a certain personality. Someone who was energetic and would promote the program and school. I don't know anyone personally associated with the football program at Ryle, but maybe Coach Woolf didn't have the certain qualities in what they were looking for in their next head coach. I am not knocking the decision in any way or saying that Coach Woolf doesn't possess those qualities, but I think too many people are reading into this and trying to make things out to be different than from what they really are.
