I really hope this is untrue as well............But I'm almost certain with the committee that was asembled, It was done before it ever started. They should had brought back Coach McDowell, they should had never let him go to start with.

I also heard Powell Co.'s coach was a finalist...Look at what he has done to turn the football team at Powell into a football program! I don't want to take anything away from Coach Baldridge, but for the sake of the players at RC, they need someone in place that can turn that team around, not just win games. They need structure and discipline and when you build a program, that is what you build it upon. Now it will be a few years before that can take place, that is if this debauchery doesn't happen again...There comes a time when pleasing the "politicians" needs to take a backseat. This is one of those times. Look at all of the great programs...they didn't just happen...they were built...I don't see politics getting in Ivan McGlone's way...I guess now I can see why a 3A school with plenty of talent was pulled from District...:confused: Sounds like a Big Mistake made by RC!

Bottom line is this. There is a cycle with Rowan county. It goes like this. Drop off very low every 4 to 5 years. Rise a bit (to average) and then find a new coach. Start over and put themselves in the hole again. The new staff will consist of many of the former coaches from the Mick Cabba staff (0-10) and Ray Ginter staff: 1-9, 2-8, 3-7 and 2-8. Baldridge will be the only change. He was on last years staff 5-5. The only hope is the young talent coming but it won't make a real impact for 3 years. There is a solid junior class and senior class next year. But with the new philosophy from current principal that they are going to throw the ball all over the field (notice i said principal's philosophy) they could struggle with a run oriented group of kids returning. If they do a solid job they will win 7 if not they could lose 7 or 8. IF they throw it more than 8 or 9 times a game they will struggle. But the principal will be happy because they are throwing it. He has been assured by the new coach that he wants to throw the ball alot. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Rowan is also going to cut coaches salaries (only 4 paid assistants currently) . Also, the assistant coaching pay at Rowan is very low. The top assistant made $2,500 last year. The new head coach will make half of what the last head coach made. What does that tell us about a committment to improve? :eek: :eek: :scared: :scared:

Your right, that is the cycle here, it's realy a laughing joke in the community, as I'm assure your aware of. Also, from what I understand, 1 of the committee members is in the running for a position on the staff and it appears that a local member of the community is willing to make a nice donation to the school to fill another position, and in my personal opinion, that is an even bigger joke than who they hired. As far as the paid coaches goes, it does not surprise me. With the weak schedule they play, they shold be able to win a few games, when they get back in the district next season, they better be prepared, I'm not sure if they really know what they are getting into. I personally can't belive a head coach would run the offense a principal wanted but again, this is Rowan Co. we are talking about. They have either fired or run off the only coaches that have ever won there. With the exception of the Soccer and Speech programs.

I've heard that teachers, players, committee members and others are highly upset over this decision. I also heard that it did not go the way the committee voted. If this is the case, then how will the principal get support from any of his committees from now on? I wish everyone involved the best, especially the youngmen that have probably been through a lot lately. Bill has plenty of experience from Harrodsburg, MSU and Greenup that I know of but probably a few more in between. Who are the assistants from the last staff that Bill will have?

It is very sad to see a school make a decision based on monetary contributions and personal agendas...I dislike the fact that an administrator would rather satisfy the few rather than do what is right for the many. Oh, and Rowan had one of the top running backs last year and with the right coach, he was willing to move back from Bath...but no...let's hire a guy because he said he'd pass the ball...WHY?? Instead of having a coach with 3 state championship rings who has proven to be the kind of guy to build a program, a golf buddie is picked instead...Oh and I think there are numerous companies in Morehead that would have backed the football team...so just because one company threatens to pull funding if a certain coach is not hired doesn't mean that the future of the football team needs to be put on the back-burner...What is even worse is the fact that the person that made this mistake may not even see it until he is gone...For the players...don't give up...play hard and have fun...I just hope the administration gets things straight before Rowan is out of district for good!

You are absolutely right, ChiefSmoke...And I think I need to make it clear that my dissatisfaction is not with Baldridge, but it lies with the decision makers...There is no one better to learn from than a coach that has been through the ins and outs of HS football...And the kids will learn from Coach Baldridge...my concern is what happens when he retires...The administration has made it clear that one of the assistants will have the job when Baldridge retires...Is that going to be a good decision for RC??

Despite your concern, coach Baldridge will do the job. He knows football and he cares about his players. The issue is if Rowan County's administration will ever fully support the football program. Coach Baldridge will start them in the right direction.

Coach B is a solid choice. He knows the game and he would be the ideal candidate to take Rowan back into district competition.
