Erika Rogers led Montgomery County with 23, including 5 3-pointers.

I knew this would be a barn burner!

Congrats to Coach Kelsch and the Lady Bears!

Way to go Bailey! #Shine

Everybody was asking me that question & I had no clue. I honestly thought Bracken had won since the 1980's. :lol2:

Looks like that game was a Regional Tourney game.

That's a long time back... That would be Cheri McDowell, Mollie Linville, Annie Mains (sophomores then)

Bracken County coach Patrick Kelsch was 12 days shy of his 11th birthday.

Most, if not all, of the Mason County coaching staff in attendance tonight. A handful of players were there as well. Lady Royals host Montgomery County tomorrow night.

I was in 7th grade...most likely attended that game

Where is the 39th district tournament this year? I would like to watch the finals if I'm free.

It was that.

Score was tied at 22 with a couple of minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Montgomery scores the final 7 points of the quarter to take a 29-22 lead to the locker room. Bracken County looked worn out heading to halftime. They only played 6 players the entire game & the first half had a frenetic pace to it--due in large part to MoCo's full court pressure--which was effective at times.

Bracken whittled away at the lead for most of the third quarter. I'm not sure when they took their first lead in the 2nd half, but I think it was in the 4th quarter. Cassidy Jefferson hit 3 triples, including one that she banked in from the right wing. Bailey Cummins drove the lane at will & hit big shot after big shot. Lady Bears got the lead out to 5 points twice I think. Maybe up 6 at one point, but Rogers kept bringing the Lady Indians back.

Score tied at 61 apiece with 20 seconds left & Bailey Cummins hits Emma Conley on the break who hits a layup. MoCo comes down & Rogers misses a 3 with 10 seconds left & Brooke Woods is fouled on the rebound. She hits 1-2 free throws with 10 seconds left. MoCo gets the ball at halfcourt & calls timeout with something like 5.9 to go. They get a pretty good look from 3, but it's no good & Bracken secures the rebound & the victory.

Really exciting game. Very impressed with Bracken's perseverance & I thought Kelsch made some significant adjustments, particularly on the defensive side. Played a zone most of the game, but came out of that into a box-and-one for while with the chaser on Rogers. Then a little bit of man-to-man sprinkled in, especially toward game's end.

Montgomery isn't as talented as they traditionally have been, but they are still really, really good. Rogers is fantastic. One of the best guards I've seen in a long time. Their guard play will carry them most games, but they'll need the front line to produce more if they are to have state tourney aspirations. Of course, that's just what I perceived after watching them this one game.
