Not really. Most NAIA schools sign football players knowing 2 things.

#1 they are bringing tons of money into the school.

#2 half will not make it to year 2.

Numbers so far:

FBS - 33

FCS - 27

Division II - 10

Division III - 6

NAIA - 42

Some math to think about:

 

223 football playing schools

50 average players per football playing school

11,150 total football players in the state of Kentucky

118 football players playing college football

 

223 x 50 = 11,150

118/11,150 = 1%

223 x 50 = 11,150

118/11,150 = 1%

 

While your math is accurate I would look at this a different way. If you look at this from the assumption of how many player are Srs. that are eligible to go play football at the next level it gives a little different perspective. So if on avg. each of those teams had 30% seniors it would be as follows:

 

223 football playing schools

50 avg. players per football playing school with 30% being seniors = 15

3,345 total seniors football players in the State of Kentucky

118 football players playing college football

 

223 x 15 = 3,345

118/3,345 = 3.5%

 

Not a huge difference but it is positive that many of these players are getting to realize a dream of playing football at the next level. There will be more signings coming in over the next few weeks so that is positive as well.

 

Good luck to all of these players no matter what level it is. Bottom line is you are moving on to play and everyone's level is just as important as the other.

You have a valid point.

 

I was pointing to the fact that 1% play college football nation wide, and it seemed that Kentucky was on average. But, with your, more then likely better way of thinking, it would seem that 3.5% of Kentucky seniors are playing college football. I would consider that an impressive number.

 

People often point to other states as being the mecca of football recruiting, but with the population of states like Florida and Texas compared to the population of Kentucky, I would venture a guess that Kentucky is right there with them in the number, per capita, of college football players.
