July 9, 201412 yr Dramatic and Kevin Ware coming out of PP's mouth? That's rich... From Good Morning America to, "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"
July 9, 201412 yr Preston Knowles never played the way Demarcus Cousins did/does. And likewise, Cousins has not been arrested for assault as Knowles was.
July 10, 201412 yr Author Other than the overblown Swopshire incident what else has Cousins' done to earn this reputation other than being emotional? I don't think he's mentally off or unstable. I think he's just emotional. That's two different things to me. Has he been arrested? Beat up women or kids? Drug smuggler? Thrown up gang signs? What has he done? Part of the "emotional"/baggage comes from an incident at school when he was a 16 year old kid and things allegedly got physical with a teacher. Sorry, don't care how big he is... teacher's don't need to put themselves in that position and get in those kinds of altercations with juveniles. I think he should have been tossed from the Louisville game or at least been T'd up for his elbow, but there's not really a lot of things he's done aside from getting technicals in the pros and making the "choke" sign that really stand out to me. His feud with Blake Griffin is just funny to me. He would break Griffin in two, publicly calls him out for flopping, and knows that regardless of how Griffin may act when teammates and refs can step in and cameras are rolling, that deep down, you really get the impression that Blake absolutely does not want any of him at all. I best explained my feelings on Cousins' character to a classmate who'd asked me to be candid with what I thought by putting it like this: "he's a guy that getting a technical, getting thrown out of a game, or elbowing at someone on the other team doesn't surprise anyone, but I would honestly be surprised if he's on the news one day for something serious like beating his wife, selling drugs, being behind years on child support and obviously not even trying to pay it, or something like that". He didn't even have his driver's license until he was like 20. For whatever reason, that's one of the least "hard" or "thug" things I see. I know the standard isn't very high when it's just people who don't do things that no one should do, but I'd guess there are some fairly clean cut guys in the NBA (or other pro sports in general) who things like the wife example you'd hesitate to apply that type of label to so readily. I just think that there are probably people who see him from afar and would think those kinds of things about him when it's not really like that. From what I can tell about his character based on my being at UK at the same time as him as a student (where you hear all of the funny and crazy rumors), talking to people who know people who know him personally from his time at UK (part of his agency/representation is a guy who grew up in Central Kentucky), reading stories that come out about him, etc., there's really nothing that's seemed to give me any kind of indication that he's the kind of guy who'd have some serious character flaws when it came to just being a person, and I think that's more than you can say for a lot of athletes that are much more beloved than him. Maybe I'm wrong about all of that, but I think it'd be pretty frustrating to be a guy that's the size of him or Shaq who is expected to go get beat on for 48 minutes and just take it the whole way without retaliating to some extent, but those retaliations and pleas with officials are what most are really judging him on. Fair or not, consciously or subconsciously, officials more often than not punish guys that size just for being big (and too good).
July 10, 201412 yr Author Already posted it, but wanted to try and embed this one. Video of the guy whose #1 in the NBA in technicals -- "malcontent". Blake Griffin is #2 in the league in technicals, but he's "passionate". Kevin Durant is #3, but he's "humble". Dwight Howard is #5, but he's "goofy or lighthearted". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RjEc4a98v0

July 10, 201412 yr Like I said, Cousins off the court life is not why I don't like him... All because of Swopshire's knee?
July 10, 201412 yr All because of Swopshire's knee? No, that was really just the beginning... I will say, had that not happened, I probably wouldn't dislike him as much, but I didn't really have an opinion of him until then. After that, I noticed things I didn't like more and more. "Call Me" was awesome though. Pure genius. Loved that.
