January 20, 201412 yr 2013 NFL playoffs -- Peyton Manning raises $24,800 for charity for 31 'Omaha' calls against New England Patriots - ESPN
January 20, 201412 yr What's to stop a company from paying a player or coach to change line calls and pay players to call out anything over the on field mics? I'm not sure I want the onfield mics picking up as much as they do if I am the league, coach or even a player for that matter.

January 20, 201412 yr Peyton got the "Omaha" cadence from his little brother, been doing it for years with no $ attached.

Not sure who started it. From what I understand about it, it lets the offense know the snap count is live. Anything said before "Omaha" is a dummy count. If the count is on two, after they say "Omaha" is when the actual snap count would start.
January 20, 201412 yr Yeah, both Peyton and Eli have done this for years (I didn't know which started it)... Not sure why it's getting so much publicity all of a sudden.

January 20, 201412 yr In college at Fairfield University (go Stags), we used Omaha for going on one, blue for going on two and red for our hard count freeze. I'm pretty sure Omaha means the same thing in the NFL based on watching Eli for years.

"Omaha" isn't any sort of audible, but rather a snap count indicator. Like an indicator used by third-base coaches in baseball, Manning's "Omaha" indicator alerts the offense that the snap count is now "live." When Manning called "Omaha" in the huddle, it told the offensive players that anything he says before "Omaha" is meaningless. Thus, the "Red 19, Red 19, set hut" that Manning yelled meant nothing to the Giants on this play." http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/fifthdown/2012/09/18/breaking-down-victor-cruzs-80-yard-touchdown/

For example, you hear Eli call out "Omaha! Omaha!" That would mean go on one. Then he would call "Set, hut!" Snap is on the hut. At Fairfield, we did the exact same thing. Strength call for the line, then mike call then cadence. For example, "Florida! 33, 33! Omaha! Omaha set hut!" Florida indicates strength to the field. Boston to the boundary. We would also use Roger and Lucy or a East and West. 33 is the mike backer's number. Omaha means snap it on the first hut. We could also go "West! West! 55, 55! Red 8! Red 8! Set hut hut hut! Omaha! Omaha set hut!" West means defense strong left. 55 is the mike backer. Red means freeze, so we hard count the defense. Then Omaha indicates snap on 1.

Anything said before "Omaha" is a dummy count to see if the defense will show their hand. Once Omaha is said, the actual snap count is active. Doesn't mean its on 1...it could be anything after that just depends on what they called in the huddle.

I will say I still think Omaha is on one because I haven't seen Eli freeze anyone on that count, but conceivably he could if it isn't the trigger word.
