Walt just announced that "things have changed" and the Reds will not be signing Sizemore.

It's pretty sad when the Reds can't even afford a player like Sizemore. MLB would be so much better with cap.

I heard Sizemore is signing with the Red Sox. I didn't get all the details but it is a $750,000 deal that with performance bonuses could go up to $6M. The Reds can't take the risk of a $6M paycheck.

^ I don't think they would have had a problem with that if he played well enough to earn those incentives. It was guaranteed MLB deal. Reds only wanted to do minor league deal.

Reds offered him a MLB contract but he "changed his mind."

Interesting, where did you see that? One of the beat writers mentioned they weren't going to give an MLB deal.

I'd say the Red Sox are interested in him in case Jackie Bradley isn't ready to hit at the Major League level. He'd be their 5th outfielder. Intriguing pick up if he has anything left.

I'd say the ability to DH played a small factor if anything.

The deal is heavily laced with incentives. The Reds would have gladly paid Sizemore $6 Million, because that means he would have performed at a VERY high level.

Boston being the defending World Champions with a hole in their lineup in CF probably helped as well. It didn't hurt that he had a relationship with John Farrell and Sox VP Mike Hanzen from when he was in Cleveland.

Looks like Sizemore will make the Red Sox roster. The Sox plan on playing him in 5 of the last 7 spring training games. If he holds up physically he will most likely be the opening day starter in center.

Yup, just saw where he was picked as a player to watch & most pleasant surprise of the spring.

He started and batted sixth for the Red Sox on opening day. With Victorino on the DL to open the season he'll likely get most of the at bats in CF for the Sox early. I'm sure they'll want to rest him some due to his injury history. The Red Sox did recall Jackie Bradley Jr. to do just that. A successful comeback for Sizemore would be a great story.
