Holmes 64 Woodward (OH) 55

Featured Replies

Sounded like it was even through 3 and Holmes had a big 4th qtr. i think Bolden had 24.

Great win for the Bulldogs...congrats!

Bolden 24 Chames 18

Both sat the entire 2nd qtr with 2 fouls.

Woodward hit a 3/4 shot at the buzzer to end the 3rd and put them up 45-43. All Holmes 4th qtr.

I saw on Twitter where some asked Cory Albertson (used to a Rivals guy locally) where Holmes would rank in Cincinnati. He said towards the bottom of the top 10.

Nothing wrong with that.

Hill had a pretty nice stat line...

6 pts, 8 rbs, 6 blks

Any idea on Cincy's top 10?

I'm familiar with Cincy hoops. The only teams I'd say would for sure probably beat Holmes in the current Cincy top 10 are:;

Moeller

LaSalle

Middletown (Top 75 6'7 F Vince Edwards)

I'm not too familiar with Lakota West, Lakota East, or Fairfield so can't really comment on them.

Don't see Elder, Wilmington, or Oak Hills beating Holmes. So my guess is Holmes would be anywhere 4-7 in Cincy.

I figured you'd have Holmes in your top two.

Moeller is loaded. Grant Benzinger and Jack Anton are both D1 commits and they have another big thats getting high D1 interest. PG would be top 5-7 player in NKY.

Lasalle is loaded. Not familiar with the names outside of Larkin but they are a very physical team and their coach runs some of the stuff you'll see in the area.

Middletown has Top 75 Vince Edwards and two 8th graders who are already getting D1 interest.

Holmes beat Elder over the summer by 14 while missing Herndon and Housely.

Wilmington is a two trick pony with the Cumberland cousins.

Oak Hills has good size but no athleticism or quickness.

Again, don't know enough about the Lakotas and Fairfield to comment which is why I said 4-7 range.

No disrespect to Holmes but they also appear to be a two trick pony, Bolden and Chames.

Woodward drops to 5-8 with this loss.

Woodward is currently ranked 15th in the DII through DIV Cincinnati area coaches poll. They haven't been DI in Ohio in a number of years. I.E. this is not your father's Woodward program.

I'm more than a little surprised the game stayed this close. But, I am basing that solely on Woodward's results and ranking. I haven't seen them play, maybe they had some kids hurt or suspended for a time.

Agree, Woodward isn't very good this year.

As far as all of Cincinnati area, I just had this conversation with an Ohio head basketball coach on Monday. His opinion, and understand, he doesn't get to see everyone either.

1. Moeller

2. NewCath

3. CovCath

4. LaSalle

5. Middletown

6. Holmes

7. Roger Bacon

8. Lakota West

9. Elder

10. Fairfield or Walnut Hills

As an aside, he said while he wouldn't put Kings in the Top 10 right now, he said he thought many would take their roster over anyone else's for the next few years. Apparently they start a 6'7" freshman and a freshman point guard that are both outstanding, and have a couple other freshmen that will be likely varsity starters next year as sophomores.

No disrespect to Holmes but they also appear to be a two trick pony, Bolden and Chames.

If you're judging by the one game against CovCath, then you might have a point, but truly they have a lot more going for them than that. To some degree everyone from McClendon, Hill, Housely, Avery, Glover, Arnold, Herndon, Covington, Brolly, and Moore have contributed decent minutes giving the Bulldogs a lot more options than many might realize.

All these kids have built various levels of varsity experience that can make Holmes a very dangerous team, and seriously how many teams can boast 12 players that can realistically help the cause?

Many of these kids also play JV and their experience became all too evident when in the JV game against CovCath's JV they came out of the gate on a 12-0 run to start the game.

Only CovCath's varsity team can boast a similar amount of legitimate contributers from their bench as the Bulldogs can.

You can't judge them by one game, as their whole body of work has proved otherwise. Certainly your main guys will get the spotlight just like any team, but as they attain even more experience as a team as the season goes, you gotta like their chances with so many solid players contributing.

Bolden and Chames sat the entire 2nd qtr last night due to 2 fouls...that makes a difference.

But I'll admit that I, too, was surprised with how close it was when I was getting updates. I talked to a guy at the X game last night who is very familiar with Woodward and he was telling me that they don't have much talent but they are a very scrappy team who plays hard. Their best player is the Jones kid who finished with a game high 28 points.
