I was impressed with him. Shot wasn't falling but the kid has game.

 

Agree. I used the term 'force of nature' to describe him in the update thread.

Lafayette is just a different kind of team on a different level than Augusta. 2-2-1 3/4 court press with Davis and Blakley (whose game reminds me of Derrick Jasper somewhat) playing the back 2 on that press and a bench that's a legit 8 deep, not many will handle that well. You won't see many running clocks in a tourney like this. That should tell us something.

They lost Tanner Kelsch, their #2 scorer & top rebounder. He's only 6'1" or so, but played much bigger than his size & was arguably the most underrated player in the 10th Region last year. They also lost 6'6" Cody Staggs, but he only played a handful of games due to eligibility issues.

 

Guard Owens Crawford was a starter last year, but was injured in the season opener & his return is uncertain. Bach, Camryn Snapp, & Connor Maddox are the only scoring threats Augusta possesses. Bach & Snapp are really the only two guys who can make a play & get theirs. Maddox is an excellent spot-up shooter, but cannot create as well.

Also, Lafayette let off the gas and played a lot of kids. I honestly wondered if Mendenhall played as many kids as he would have if he weren't trying to save legs for the remainder of the tourney. By the middle of the 2nd, 9 or so bodies had seen minutes.

 

Blakley got two quick fouls and sat most of the 1st half. That's a 3 year starter who is a huge part of what you do gone.
