Error #1 that negates all the rest of this post: I haven't been to a high school basketball game in a LONG time....and I think I have only been to maybe 3 or 4 in my life. :lol:

Rats! Missed that! LOL The only grade school/middle school games I've ever been to were my own kids' games. Frankly, I don't know enough about basketball to say whether a coach is good, bad, or ugly. I can't imagine ever calling a coach an embarrassment...I'd have no idea if he were or weren't.

 

Completely honest here...even if I have the opportunity to go to a UL game, I am a passive basketball fan.

I don't get coaches letting parents gather around with the team after a game.

 

Post-game is when it's time for the team to talk as a team including coaches and managers.

 

Frank, my guess is you do it because a)you're a gentlemen and b)you want them to feel involved.

 

What is really accomplished? Heck, it led to this crazy lady to feel free to walk up to your huddle.

 

I just don't get it. There's a time for parents to be involved. Post game is not it IMO.

 

That totally depends on the age of the players for me. Younger players, I actually like the parents being there. They are going to talk to their kid and they will be on message with what we (the coaches) are looking for. It also reinforces for the parents that the coaches know what they are doing, there is a plan and where the team needs to get better.

 

As you get to middle school and certainly high school, I am with you on post game being team time.

My dad was a coach in several different high school sports over the years, and dealt with a lot of crazy parents. But the worst of all was one who threatened to kill him for not picking his kid (who was not good at all) for the team. Well, it wasn't just a one time tirade, as he began stalking and harassing our family by phone -- like calling and claiming to be the coroner's office. This went on for a while and my folks were hoping he'd run out of steam, but he didn't. They finally had to involve the police, who had a little "chat" with him. Problem solved!

Could have been worse, atleast she had the guts to say something. I like it when parents post stuff on facebook instead of discussing their issue.
