You're correct, he left the team but he is still in school.

I would not use Holmes as a common score in any situations. They were a much different team throughout the season.

Bottom line is WV is still alive by beating a Lloyd team that NCC was only up 3-0 at half on.

 

True, but when that game was played NewCath was still injury riddled coming off a "killer" non-district schedule.

 

Coach Barth and staff have done one of the best jobs in the state when it comes to success for a program in it's infancy.

Shame, I thought the young man was one hell of an athlete and certainly would have helped the team. Glad he is still attending classes.

This post makes me laugh. Walton Verona doesn't stand a chance. They are out matched by NCC and will be out coached. I've seen WV only once this year and I haven't seen NCC at all, but history tells you that NCC is at another level.

 

You aren't the only one who feels this way. I was told WV coaches refused to show the team film and cancelled practice this week, using it more for fun time. Reportedly Monday they took a trip to the Zoo and Tuesday was a scavenger hunt at the Florence Mall. I'll investigate today's version of "Where's Walton?" Not sure I agree with the strategy, but I guess there's a method to the madness.

This is not the normal NewCath team like in years past, that being said, they have been crippled by injuries all season long, more than any Breds team in recent history. If Stephen Brooks plays this week it will be the 1st time all season that all 1st teamers are on the field at one time. However, it has given many back-ups the opportunity to get plenty of rep's, and this should help as the team continues on.

 

Also the move of Mac Franzen to the QB position has been a work in progress and he is make great strides, but this is a difficult transition for someone who hasn't played the position since his freshman year. Plus you have quite a few playing varsity for the 1st time and many are sophomores, but this does bode well for the next two years.

 

The kicking game has taken a small step back from years past. John Caudill and Wyatt Boberg are doing a great job, but there have been more missed extra points (maybe 10) this year since I can remember.

 

The run defense is doing the best job IMO, against 2A competition (and Beechwood) they are allowing less than 85 rushing yards per game.

 

The pass defense is the Breds "Achilles' heal", although improvement has been seen the past few weeks. A pure passing team will surely test this improvement.

 

With all this being said, IMO they still make it to Bowling Green to defend their title, however only time will tell.

The margin for error for this NCC team is not as great as in the past years where they could have turnovers or poor pass defense or a bad kicking game and a bunch of stupid penalties and still win a 2A game by 20 instead of 40. They should win Friday but they will have to show up and play a solid game in all phases and take care of business.
