Disagree. SEC is down this year. Besides LSU and A&M Alabama hasn't played anyone and neither LSU or A&M appears to be as good as they were last season.

The Buckeyes haven't done anything, in and of themselves, to merit dropping. On that we agree. But Florida State has done something(s) to merit raising them to #2.

 

What I'm saying is that the #2 spot has more to do with Florida State than it does Ohio State.

 

If we take pre-season rankings off the table & just looked at the results for both teams thus far...AND if we don't know what two teams we're looking at...I think the resume of FSU is clearly superior to that of OSU.

Well, that's the thing. Maybe OSU hasn't done anything to merit dropping them, but Florida State certainly has done enough to merit jumping them. You have a very high opinion of Clemson who Florida State drug up and down the field to the tune of a 51-14 win. Sometimes teams help shake it out via losses, but sometimes you simply have to look with your eyes and evaluate the teams. And for most people, in an OSU v FSU evaluation, FSU comes up better.

 

I wouldn't think the argument to make would be that this is where the voters thought they'd be preseason and simply rest on those laurels. The voters make mistakes every year in the preseason polls. For example, Louisville and Florida were ranked in the top 10 to start the year.

Clemson imo is every bit as good as Baylor.

 

If Clemson is as good as Baylor, and you think they are even for 5th best team in America, than it waters down your point that OSU and FSU are practically even. Florida State went into Clemson and dog-stomped them, there is nothing on Ohio State's schedule close to that game or that outcome.

Not sure about Oregon, but it's not a stretch of the imagination to see them beating both A&M & Missouri.

 

I think I've seen all the top teams play this year, many of them more than once. To me, Alabama & FSU are the clear front-runners. The Tide will have a tough test at Auburn because the Tigers are good & it's a rivalry game. An SEC title game with Missouri could also be interesting, but ultimately I think they both win out & we get the BCS title game most of us are looking for.

Miami's certainly not as good a win as it was billed when FSU beat them. Miami's ranking said much more about what other teams were doing than what they were. But they were better than what happened to them this past week. Losing Duke Johnson will destroy that team the rest of the year.

I've got the Canes losing to Duke this weekend. Maybe even Pittsburgh to end the season.
