Scott High Eagles (7-3) make the trip to the Capital City to take on the Franklin County Flyers (9-1) in rough one of the 5A playoffs. Over the last couple of years these two teams have been very familiar with one another they have met 4 times with Franklin County winning all 4 games. Last time these 2 teams met it was in last season’s playoffs with the Flyers winning 48-10.

 

This season Scott believes things can be different because they are much improved from seasons past. But the question remains the same are they good enough to slow down the high scoring Flyer offense?

Scott is going to need avoid giving up big plays in the passing game, and force some turnovers, something they haven't been able to do the last several weeks. Scott will score some points, but also need to cut down on penalties in order to stay out of 3rd and long. I think this one will be closer than most expect.

Scott has to control the clock and score on the majority of their possesions if they have any chacne at winning this one imo. Scott has had a great season but once district play started they showed they are very evenly matched to the other teams in district which may have slowed their momentum down a bit.

 

They need that confidence they had earlier in the season against Franklin Co.

I was right about the Eagles "tough night" against Mason Co. and I'm afraid it's only gonna get worse for them this week. I wish them well, hope they win....just don't think they will.

With Franklin County having a week off to get a few some rest I look for them to win big.

Agree. Scott's not only playing to advance, they're also playing for the future of the program. If they get blown out, could it set back the program? I think if they give a great showing in a defeat, it elevates that program. Of course I'll be rooting for an Eagle win.

In order for Scott to win, they need to be able to defend the pass and offensively need production out of everyone as opposed to just Castleman. Scott's whole offensive lineup is very talented, I just don't think they "mix it up" enough. All year defensively Scott has struggled with the pass. Franklin CO. will throw all over Scott if proper adjustments aren't made this week. I expect it to be a nail-biter Friday night but when it is all said and done, I don't see Scott loosing 4 straight. 36-30 Eagles.

I don't think this is the same FC team Scott has seen the past two years. Timmons struck a special fear into teams and basically defenses had to gameplan specifically for him. Without him FC is forced to play 11 on 11 football again. I think this will be a one possession game. However because one possession games are decided with a last minute drive, and Scott has literally no passing game..... FC 35-28

Lorenzo McCaskell. He may be as fast as Timmons and is a playmaker. Franklin County has 2 or 3 other players that are just a step slower than McCaskell and they have a big RB in Chris Roberts who can be a load if he puts his game face on and goes to work.

 

What a shame Scott has this matchup in round one. But they are in the playoffs and have the opportunity to get an upset and prove the doubters wrong. I don't want to drone on this too much, but as I said in the Conner game thread, Scott wouldn't even be in the playoffs if many on BGP had their way and only two teams from each district went to the playoffs. That would really be a shame.

Hope you're correct. I was just thinking about the great strides, regardless of schedule, the program had made this year and what a downer it would be for the seniors if the Eagles were pummeled in a playoff game. Good luck to the Eagles!

Will be a downer for the Seniors, for sure, but I don't think it will stunt the development of the program. I'm certain it will leave an awful taste for the graduating Eagles, you're 100% correct.
