Why is Anderson County in the Top 20 for Lit?

 

Why all the love for McCracken County? They lost to 2 excellent teams who are 1A and 3A. But #4 Overall because of it? Wouldn't Mayfield be ranked higher? But they come in at #10 despite their head to head results.

 

The thing about most computer rankings is you are penalized for playing at home. McCracken lost at Mayfield by 1 point. Generally speaking computer rankings basically treat that as a win. McCracken also has other big wins over solidly computer ranked teams. On the other hand is McCracken 4th in the state right now? Probably not but a fair judgment of them should also include the fact that the opening 2 losses were the first games in the history of the school. The arc points upward I would say...

Not sold on Scott Co as a top 5 team. Their wins are against teams that are currently 2-6, 2-6, 3-4, 1-7, 1-7, 1-6, and their best win against 6-1 Henry Clay who has also played a weak schedule.

In comparison to Lit and Cantrall they are actually figuring in Out of State opponents throughout all the equations. It is also figuring in more accurate records and scores than Massey.

 

I have actually been fairly impressed with CalPreps. If you look back at individual team previews they actually attempt to do some research instead of just assigning the magic number factoring in returning starters, key players returning, and a dynasty ranking of how teams have faired over the past seasons. It has became my favorite computer ranking.

Ft Campbell is 2-5

Bullitt Central is 4-3

Graves County is 5-2

Marshall County is 1-6.

 

Don't know about the TN team but in the KY teams listed, which one is the solid computer team that brings them up?

Below is the list I came up with. These are a weighted average of my rank, a team's Cantrell score, and the ranks of BGP users. Enjoy.

Sorry Swish but IMO to prove a team solid by a Computer that seems to fail the eye test isn't a very convincing argument. Ft Campbell is 2-5 with 2 wins vs. a 4-3 team and 2-6 squad.

I'm not arguing the validity of Litkenhous. I'm just trying to explain the result. Fact is McCracken, Mayfield, Tilghman, and Graves have all played each other and they obviously have some results that has lifted all of their Litkenhous ratings. Time will tell....

When I was doing the rankings for this week where I take the weighted average of BGP users, my own rankings, and the Cantrell rankings, I was going to include the LIT rankings, but they were so off compared to what everyone else had, I chose not to. Maybe the formula they use needs more data to work itself out (as most formulas like that do), but they seemed pretty off this week.

I've seen end of the season Lit ratings back to the 70's that just didn't jive with what was on the field.
