October 8, 201312 yr Is there another pro sports team that has choked as much as the Atlanta Braves? They have made the post season 17 times since 1991 and won their division 15 of those times. That means they have made the playoffs all but 5 times in the last 22 years. This is baseball we are talking about, not Hockey or the NBA where just about everone makes the playoffs, or even the NFL where even more teams make the playoffs than MLB. Yet the Braves have seen the post season most every year. What do they have to swhow for it? 1 World Series championship since 1991. 15 Division championships, 2 wild card berths and only 1 championship. Can anyone else think of a team that has choked more than the Braves after dominating their division year in and year out in the regular season but choke in the post season?
October 8, 201312 yr I wish the teams I liked made the playoffs enough to have a reputation for failing in the playoffs.
October 8, 201312 yr Author I wish the teams I liked made the playoffs enough to have a reputation for failing in the playoffs. Me too!!! I'd give anything if the Bengals made the playoffs 50 yeears in a row as long as they had 1 SB championship before I die to brag about.
October 8, 201312 yr Not this season. They won a weak division and would not beat the Dodgers in a series if they played until doomsday...
October 9, 201312 yr When's the last time the Reds won a playoff series? I guess that answers your question.
October 9, 201312 yr I wish the teams I liked made the playoffs enough to have a reputation for failing in the playoffs. Exactly. It's all about your viewpoint. While I agree that it was especially egregious that the Braves only won one title during the 90s, it is less egregious what has happened since. It's been a decade since they've had a team I thought would win it all, maybe longer. Perhaps they are the biggest chokers but I second Getslow's sentiment - I'd rather have Atlanta's track record than say, Houston or even Arizona. I would however trade it with Florida/Miami, who at least converted on both shots.
October 9, 201312 yr Author When's the last time the Reds won a playoff series? I guess that answers your question. What question is that? Last I checked the Reds haven't been in the playoffs 17 of the last 22 years.
October 9, 201312 yr I'll take making the playoffs every year even if it only results in a World Series rarely. It's a no brainer and to answer your question no they are not the biggest chokes in pro sports.
October 9, 201312 yr The Braves underachieved in the postseason in the 90's and early 2000's no question but that's just the way it falls sometimes. They made the World Series in 91, 95, 96, and 98 yet only won 1. I'd still take that over anything and I can guarantee every other team would too. Choking would be making the playoffs and getting to the World Series every year and losing.
October 9, 201312 yr What question is that? Last I checked the Reds haven't been in the playoffs 17 of the last 22 years. So is the bigger choker the one that made the playoffs but didn't win titles or the one that rarely makes the playoffs and when they do can't even win one series?
October 9, 201312 yr Author So is the bigger choker the one that made the playoffs but didn't win titles or the one that rarely makes the playoffs and when they do can't even win one series? Deffinatly the one that has made the playoffs more than anyone else in that time frame yet can't win the big one more than 1 time in 2 decades of playoffs. A team not expected to make the playoffs in the majority of those years aren't chokers, they are just bad. A team expected to make the playoffs but once they get there always loses is considered chokers. Are you trying to say the Cleveland Browns are chokers for not wwinning a SB in the last 10 years? I didn't know they were expected to even make the playoffs in that time.

October 9, 201312 yr You choke when you do nothing in the play offs all those years. Simple. How is it choking? It's different players year in and year out. It's a 162 game season and some teams enter on a slump and some enter on a hot streak.
October 9, 201312 yr Also when I hear the term "choke" I think of having a big lead in a game or series and then blowing it. In the playoffs everyone starts 0-0. Braves are underachievers not the biggest choke teams in pro sports.
