A head coach should have the authority to schedule his games. I am sure Bell Co is using the money game to get them back on the schedule. Is Bell Co having a problem getting teams to play them? Maybe they should let up when the games get out of hand. That would help to keep teams on the schedule.

Bell Co or Corbin has never ask anyone to let up on them or complained about a score, but Middlesboro is a different story, maybe it's something else other than running up the score.

If Bell is up by 3 or more TD's in the 4th quarter of a game, then you will not see starters on the field. The only problem is some years our reserves are better than other team's starters. Thats not being cocky, there are teams just as good as us, but in some situations that is the case.

 

Anyways, this move makes a lot of sense financially and brings more funds to the program. This is a great move.

So that means Highlands is actually the owner of Bell County since the last time the Birds played there they won. Right?

I just think the head coach should be able to schedule the games he wants to play. Most schools onlyave 3-5 non district games. Coaches try and schedule games in most part that will help them prepare for the the district and post season.If Coach Roark feels not playing Bell is what is best for his team then he should have that right.

On a serious note.....I dont think that analogy applies. We are talking about intercounty rivals. Big difference between 2 teams that reside in the same county and traditionally meet each year, and 2 teams that meet once every several years. Highlands HS doesnt reside in the Bell County county limits. So NO.

 

I dont think you want that analogy to hold up anyways, cause that would mean the last team to beat HHS at Highlands would own Highlands. Thats a big can of worms.

I dont believe Bell's field is ever a watered mudhole when M'boro and Bell meet. They usually meet around the 2nd game of the season, and the field is usually in as good a shape as it ever is due to the fact that only 1 game has been played on it, and it hasnt endured the wear and weather of a 13 or 14 game season, as in HHS' case.

 

Not to mention the fact that if "that watered mudhole" was the reason for him losing so many games there, then he should win just as many games when Bell rolls down 25E to Middlesboro's field, but it hasnt happened. They have lost just as many at home as at Bell.

Worst post I've seen on BGP in a long time! For many reasons:

1. What would you think if you had a record of about 18-2 over the last twenty years against a team (including one your opponent had to win by waiting until they were soundly beaten, then reporting an issue known only to the player involved), then were told, with no explination why, the other coach had no interest in playing you.

2. Watered field, landmines, snow, acts of God! We all play on the same field. M'boro's supposed speed advantage should have shown up in games they played at home (I don't think Hunk does the field there also). Regardless, good teams get it done, regardless of the setbacks.

3. The fact that the vast majority of people on BGP and those I have talked to abhor this decision. Nobody is for it (except apparently a few diehard Roark fans).

4. What could possibly be the rationale for not playing if it's not fear of losing? Is the program making too much money?

I agree, they should be playing each other.What would happen if Danville and Boyle Co. quit playing each other? They would miss out of their biggest gate of the season for one. Never could understand why Middlesboro Coaching staff want to end the series anyway. Don't they know that game between them means $$$$$$?

Many of you may have heard the talk around the end of last season about Middlesboro's Coach Roark deciding not to play long time rival (40+ years) Bell County. This was fresh after Middlesboro had lost to Bell County for about the 13th time of the last 14 games. Believe it or not however, Middlesboro still owns the series. This did not go well with anybody considering they are enter county foes as well as the biggest money-making game of each teams season.

 

However, I heard yesterday that the Middlesboro Board of Education is forcing the Middlesboro football team coaching staff to put Bell County back on their schedule.

 

I think this is awesome!!

 

What does everyone else think?? Is it betraying the coach's best interest or is the school board just trying to do what is best for both programs and for football in the area??

 

The BOE is out of line. This is not an issue they should be dealing with. They have other issues far outweighing a football game.

What people also need to remember is that In 84 Lone Jack and Bell County intergrated. Before that year Bell Football wasn't very strong. We kept the Name and we took Lone Jacks colors. Since that merger Bell has dominated middlesboro in football. When was the last time P-ville and Bell played football? It use to be a good rivalary also but to be pretty one-sided.
