Athletic directors across the region are working to preserve the memory of Joey Fosko on

football and basketball sidelines with designated honorary game nights and a scholarship fund in his name.

The 1st Region Athletic Directors Association has established a Joey Fosko Memorial

Scholarship college fund to be awarded yearly to one student in each high school’s senior class in the district. Fosko, a

longtime sports writer for the Sun and regional high school sports expert, died June 17.

 

Each of the 15 schools will choose an upcoming football or basketball game to be named Joey Fosko Night. Ticket prices

will be increased by $1 for those games with the additional $1 going directly into the scholarship fund, according

to Doug Gloyd, Graves County High School athletic director.

 

Mayfield High School athletic director and head football coach Joe Morris agreed, adding: “Joey

meant a lot to high school athletics around here and because it is a rivalry game there will be a

good crowd. The whole community can come out and help with scholarships for the kids.”

 

“Nobody knew high school sports in this area like Joey Fosko,” Morris said. “This is a great way to

thank him for all his hard work and show that he will always be remembered.”
