N.Ky kids currently playing D1 soccer?

Thanks.

Unless it's changed recently, I believe in D1 you are allowed 9.9 Full scholarships. That is to be divided amongst a full roster of 20-25 players. Similar to baseball and other sports, that 9.9 can be broken down into percentages. i.e. most valuable/best player may get a full ride while those towards the end may get partial or just a few $$ towards tuition.

She only played on her club team and in the Olympic Development Program.

I was talking to parent from my son's club team who is thinking of going this route versus playing for their school.

Jordan Frommeyer - Bishop Brossart. He is currently playing for Wheeling Jesuit University. No clue what division they are but wanted to give a shout out to Jordan!

D2. Maybe you should stay out of the soccer threads until you know as much about the sport as I do. Lol.

Katie Walz of Brossart and now UL is featured on a full sized bill board in downtown Louisville promoting thier team. Really neat to see it.

Thanks.

I believe boys get 9.9 and girls get 14. Not real easy on the boys side to get your school paid for by playing soccer.

Yes, look at any roster of 20-25 players and you will likely find 6-10 foreign born players who likely have been playing this sport exclusively since an early age or perhaps were at one of the major academies overseas and matriculated to the U.S.

I think the statement about foreign born players is a bit over-blown. Look at Xavier, for example. They've been to the last 3 NCAA Tournaments, including last year winning in the first round at UK and then droppping a close one at eventual national champion Indiana. Of their top 6 players, one was from Winton Woods (Luke Spencer drafted by the NE Revolution), one was from Lakota West (Nick Hagglund among the best defensive players in America), and two were from Batavia (the Walker twins). The other two hailed from Birmingham and Texas.

Xavier does have some KY kids on their roster (Shaw from Woodford Co., Chris Moore from Ballard, Andriot from Collins, and Otting from Louisville St. X), and I know they tried like the dickens to get Talkers from CovCath.

It is easy to blame the lack of NoKY kids on international players eating up spots, but at the end of the day, they just haven't been good enough. Hopefully as both NKSA and Kings / Hammer continue to get better trainers and more sophisticated, you'll see more H.S. kids produced that can play at the highest levels.

You make great points on the scholarship issues, and the point that should be being made to H.S. boys playing high-level soccer is keep your grades and test scores UP. While you may not get a lot of athletic aid (especially as a FROSH and as a SOPH), the athletic department can work with financial aid to get you more academic monies as long as your grades and tests are where they need to be.

I'd have to agree with much of what you say here. First off, there are really not that many kids coming out of N. Ky. capable of playing D1 soccer. There really are not that many capable of playing D2 quite frankly. Look at this year. There may be two........maybe one.....possibly none. It's a high bar to get over.

Even though the NCAA mandates the maximum number of athletic scholarships for each sport, it's still up to the school as to how many athletic scholarships they're willing to fund. Once you get out of the big D-I conferences and into the D-II conferences, this becomes an added challenge for kids and one a lot of parents don't understand.

Spot on imo.

My daughter plays D1 and had 3 D1 offers and every coach that recruited her told her she was not a D1 Soccer player but a D1 Athlete with D1 measurables.

Well that Athlete scored her first college goal the other day ..:thumb:

Great news about your daughter! Congrats! Hope you have many many more bragging moments yet to come!

What do you mean by the bolded----not a D1 soccer player but a D1 athlete with D1 measurables?

I don't want to speak for sweeperboy and I don't know his daughter but I thinking maybe what the Reds saw in Billy Hamilton a couple years ago. There are plenty of great athletes that are really good at their sport but maybe not great at that time.

Iam not a soccer person so all I can do is repeat what was conveyed from those coaches during her recruiting process.

Sorry, I wish I could tell you more but I am completely ignorant when it comes to the great game of soccer.

Only had one of my 4 kids play the game and she didn't take the sport up until her 8th grade yr so Iam a late bloomer to boot.

Iam trying to learn though:thumb:

Congrats....by chance were you there to see it? Looking forward to more updates on her progress.

Obviously the coaches saw she had the drive and desire to overcome not being a D1 player. Desire, passion, drive, hustle are things you definitely can not coach....a kid either has it or doesn't. :thumb:

Sweep, you can claim she got her athletic talents from you, but she got her looks from mom.
