Until Cooper can find a way to stop the run they are going to have a hard time winning. Hard to put many points on the board when you only have like 5 possessions in a game. Defense needs to cause more 3 and outs and get more turnovers. Mistakes are still killing Cooper. Turnover on the 3 yard line. Bad coaching decision to kick the ball to Campbell County with 4 minutes left eliminated any chance to win the game.

 

Cooper had 4 minutes and two timeouts. That's plenty of time.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the only lineman that goes both ways is #50 I believe. They were also playing another running back... Not sure what his number was but he was a small quick kid.

 

Boone, Campbell, and now SK all have very big offensive lines. Cooper does not. I have noticed that you are all for Cooper platooning. Who would you replace and with who would you replace them? From what I have heard the junior class is less than impressive are you going to put more sophomores in there over kids who have been in the system for 3 years now? This isn't pee wee football or even freshman or JV ball for the matter. Varsity football the best kids see the field. It's how it was when I played, it's how it was when my father played, and I'm sure that's how it's going to be.

 

As a family member of someone on the team I know that this staff always puts the kids giving the best effort on the field. I'm not sure if you're just a disgruntled parent or what... but maybe you should take matters up with the head coach. You seem to have a lot of good ideas that I'm sure they would be willing to use.

I don't know how long you've been around here, but this is how Randy runs his team. He has always said the best 11 will play. Me personally, I don't care what grade the kid is in, if he can spare a starter a breather for a series or a few plays, then use them. You can't tell me that out of all those kids, you can't find more than 3 or 4 to run in and out to prevent exhaustion. I'm not a disgruntled parent because I don't need a high school football team to get my kid where he needs or wants to be. When he's ready to play, he will be out there. I do think the staff should continue to develop "sideline" players with their schemes throughout the season and not simply use them just for scout offense and defense once the season starts. If you were familiar with this program, you would know that's why several kids don't return year after year. They get tired of putting in the work, and standing on the sideline while the very few play a complete game, and these are kids that could develop into good players. Trust me, the talent drop off is not that far. If a sophomore outperforms a junior or even a senior, they should be on the field, if the seniors mommy and daddy don't like it.....tough. What I have been seeing on the field is not a best effort from a few of the players that are seniors, if it is their best effort, then the jags are in for a long ride this year.

Cooper is just too small up front to compete with SK in this one. Best chance is if Aaron goes off (see Jalen Beal 2 weeks ago) but the odds aren't in the Jags favor, especially in Independence. Cooper had a nice run but this one belongs to the Pioneers.

Yes 50, who is Neuman, is the only one I believe on the line that goes both ways. As far as the other running back, his number is 27 and he is a sophomore. Coach Borchers has taken this team a very long way in a very short time with a lot of disadvantages that other schools has. What he has done is incredible.

 

To answer the platooning question that keeps coming up. Every coach would love to platoon, it's getting to that point that takes time. Coach Borchers knows what he needs to do so I believe and also knows he's not there yet. Some on BGP's have said you just need to start platooning and in future years you will get the players needed to be succesful. That is easy to say, but you also want to win and I'm sure if you asked the kids on the team if they'd rather have a chance at winning in their 3 short years playing on varsity or if they'd rather lose but get playing time a lot on firday nights, most would say they would rather win.

 

There are players on the team that are on the team just to be a part of a team, they know they may never see the field on Friday Nights, but they aren't there for that, they know their limitations and accept it. They get to play on Saturdays in JV games and love it. One of the nicest gguys on this team and one all the players like is Parth Patel. #80. He played since freshman year only to be part of the team, he had no illusions of starting but he still shows up at every practice all 4 years just to be part of the team. He loves it, and he was voted Homecoming King Friday night. He isn't the only player on the team like that either.

 

Coach Borchers knows what he has and he does start underclassmen over upperclassmen if they are better. He's done that from year 1. It's not playing seniors simply because they are seniors. There are seniors that don't see the field. Coach isn't going to put a kid in on the line for example that can't play the line just to get him in and give someone a breather. I like the idea of giving kids breathers if they need it and I'm sure coach does to. It's a catch 22, you'd like to see some kids play so they can develop, but at the same time isn't that what JV is for also? There are several seniors this year that didnt see much of the field the last couple years but are now starting, they have earned it through hard work and beating out other players. This team needs to keep at it and put up some points so then the other players can get to see some time in the games. Yes there are some players good enough to get in, and hopefully it will happen, but either way Coach Borchers knows what he's doing and has this school on the right track.

They have plenty of weapons on the offensive side and the passing game may be the best the Jags ever had. What has killed Cooper this season is turnovers more than anything. You keep one back for coverage, you have A Morgan, the best CB shut down SK's #1 WR like he did to Timmons last year and we'll take our chances with the other safety supporting the run.

He will not be able to stop Wasson and if he covers him Winkler will be wide open or the 250 pound TE or the running back.

From an outsiders perspective I think SK wins by 14, Cooper is still trying to figure out who they are and SK has found the formula for success thus far this season.

I have to think SC wins this by 21 or more.

SK seems to have found the right mix of run, pass, defense to be a contender. They have size and enough skill to be dangerous. Overall team speed is still a concern against T, X or SC but no doubt that we have the advantage across the board (- Morgan).

Just putting this out there, I've seen HHS, cooper, Ryle, SK and most the other teams play in NKY. The most physical O-lineman I've seen so far is l. Schneider from CCHS. Haven't seen Scott play.

Funny you should say that...we were just talking this morning how back in our NKYFL days, SK always had HUGE kids...WR's that towered over everyone....but hit them once and they were done. I'm sure (before a certain someone has an anuerysm) that they have outgrown that but it was a consistent observant over 10+ years.
