Doss quarterback William Maddox didn’t play in the season opener against Pleasure Ridge Park, but he made his presence felt Friday night in the Dragons’ come-from-behind 33-19 victory at Central.

 

 

Maddox passed for three touchdowns and ran 38 yards for another as the Dragons (3-1) completely controlled the second half after Phillip Francis had scored two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game to give the Yellowjackets a quick 12-0 advantage.

 

“I missed the PRP game because I had to have 10 practices to be eligible to play and I missed one practice,” Maddox said.

 

He and his teammates didn’t get rattled when Francis scored on a 2-yard run one minute into the game after his 53-yard run to the 2. Francis scored again on a 31-yard run at the 9:00 mark.

 

“I just let it blow away and went to the next play,” said Maddox, a senior. “Execution was the key to our comeback.”

I love that quote by Doss Quarterback, Maddox. That is a great example of senior leadership, something so valuable in high school ball you can't measure it's worth.

I think the BGP staff saw this coming, they moved Belfry to Number 1 this week. Hat off to the BGP ranking staff.

And Doss is probably the best 4A team in Jefferson County. Not a 4A title contender but a solid club.
