Wayne County 42 Garrard County 15

Featured Replies

After Garrard County took a quick 15-0 lead in the first quarter, Wayne County methodically wore down the Lions and pushed ahead to a 42-15 win. The Lions led 15-13 at the break but couldn't hold the lead. Wayne's superior size and exceptional quarterback play really wore down Garrard in the second half. Wayne is a legitimate state title contender in Class 3A. They aren't incredibly fast but they play smart and are very precise. As for Garrard, two consecutive weeks of losing after holding double-digit leads really stings, but it has proven what many were concerned about coming into the season. The Lions have talent but are just really young and not quite level for the high level opponents they've seen in Glasgow and Wayne. Garrard is probably about the 12th best team in Class 3A, can play with most anyone in the class, but just aren't ready to move into that upper group.

No shock here, Wayne seems to be rolling right where they left off last year.

The 3A Hierarchy is quickly taking shape this year... very, very strong class 1-5

Sounds like Somerset's game with Belfry last week, it was close for a half.

They are really good. I can't say for sure if they can win their district or beat Central, but it will take a strong performance to defeat them.

Very strong. What I liked about Wayne County, too, was that they were stronger and better each quarter. They just kept coming at Garrard and finally Garrard ran out of answers. Wayne's defensive front seven was terrific. Down linemen shut down everything inside and the linebackers cut off everything outside. Garrard had a little success passing the ball and was able to run it some, but Wayne's defense was stout.

Bourbon, Wayne or Belfry will be going to Bowling Green to face Central for the title...

Can't happen that way. Wayne (and Bell and Corbin) are in the same region as Central. Wayne and Central would face each other no later than the third round.

Wayne is the type of team who might give Central fits. Deep enough to last 4 Qtrs.. strong enough up front in their Front 7 to contain their , and just enough balance and playmakers to score a TD more than Central. Looong season, but the tea leaves are shaping up for a collision course between those two in the Regional FInals.

That is right. I forgot all about it. Wayne could upset Central this year. Doesn't Central have to come to Wayne, just like Belfry has to go to Bourbon?

No, Central is the odd team and would host Wayne in a regional final. That would be an advantage for Central, although Wayne played well in Louisville last season.

I thought it was vise versa.

I have seen Wayne first hand...there down defensive lineman are playing at the next level. They are a sincronized unit that shifts, curls, plays with any seasoned offensive linemen as well as I have seen in high school football!

I feel they are the ones to dethrone Central!!!

I was pulling for Garrard, as always. Sounds like they played well but just didn't have the horses to run with Wayne for 4 quarters. I haven't had the opportunity to watch Wayne play but hopefully I will at some point. Good luck to the Lions moving forward.

As you guys have already stated, the race for the 3A title this season is going to be a fun one to follow. There seems to be a lot of balance across the top tier of teams and for the first time in a few years, any of them seem capable to step up and make a run of it.

Wayne is a tough well coached football team. They have all the pieces needed to make a deep run to BG.
