Mex, I realize Sutkamp(Johnson elem)would be a great addition to the Birds D, but while folks are drooling...I'll say this NCC fans would drool over having Thomas Wrobleski (St. Thomas), Ryan Greene (St. Joe's), and Zach Harris (St. Catherine).

Highlands is probably 40 to 50% Catholic and use to be closer to 60% back in the day. Just sayin...

What the heck does NewCath moving the ball on the ground against Ashland have to do with Highlands and CovCath??

And Ashland is nowhere close to the team that Caldwell County was last year. To play 25 kids in a game where you have a 3 touchdown lead is no indication of the team's depth. Tried using the receivers early but the balls were going right through their hands.

I have not seen NC this year. Therefore, I will hold my initial thoughts until I see them play.

 

However, it's too bad we will never get to see this hypothesis tested.

I may be one of the very few that saw both games for these two teams. A. NewCath isn't as bad as some people feel that they are this year. They have weapons and actually more depth than the past few years. However, they don't have the size and depth that they need to beat Highlands. B. Highlands has more athletes, better athletes at more positions, and NewCath didn't tackle well enough last week to stay in the game with Highlands. I put Highlands about 28 pts-35 pts better.

 

They are, however, in much better shape than UC and Highlands fans would drool over having Jack Sutkamp as their MLB or OLB. Jake Smith is exciting and, IMO, has passed Hayes from Highlands. He is bigger and just as quick and fast. Top 10 players v. top 10 players, it isn't as wide of a gap as one would suspect. It is the overall depth that would spell doom for NewCath. Too many TALENTED players, not just bodies filling spots, but talented bodies.

 

As for the CovCath reference, NewCath v. CovCath, with the exception of one or two, was always a stellar game and would have been this year as well.

 

As was I, and I agree with you. The Breds are in way better shape than UC. However, I think A NewCath /Highlands game turns out just like the Highlands/UC game....Breds hang during the 1st half, then the Birds take command in the 2nd.

 

While I bleed Blue & Gold, my head tells me Birds are a good 3 scores better, and I'm not talking safety's. Breds just don't have the overall depth.

 

I think it's pretty amazing that we have two STATE CHAMPS and two of the best programs in the state less than 5 minutes apart from one another, not many in the state can make that claim. :ylsuper:

TRUE!!! It would be all Breds talk instead of Caldwell Co.

I look forward to seeing NC play. I have heard a lot about the skilled players, but what about the O-line and D-line. Who are the linemen?

Harris had two bros play on State finalists at NewCath. Jarrod was the starting QB for the 2006 state champs. He would have been a great addition to any team. I also like both Green and Wrobleski.

Wow, maybe there IS something to all these concussion theories!!! You really are trying to compare the number of kids played in the first game of a season vs a state final game??? Coaches tend to play more kids early in the season to test them when it's not as big, then pull the reigns back as the games get more important.

 

You really are fun to read, but I'm pulling my kid out of football if this is how he's going to turn out!!!

 

I wish I had the time to look back and compare the number of your posts on a bluebird topic vs a breds topic.

I don't think this should even be a topic. Like someone said before, I think this game would be decent up until halftime, then it might get a little ugly. To be realistic, the one year in the past few that NCC could have competed, and possibly even beat Highlands would have been 2010. Then again, that Highlands team was certainly not the best.

Seeing the comments from NKYfootballfan91 makes me wonder one thing...
