January 14, 201412 yr It was an EXCELLENT book. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. I didn't read the book, but I can guess this is one of those few movies that actually do the book justice. Very intense.
January 14, 201412 yr Alright, I have a little trivia contest for you all. 3 questions, and you need to tell me how it is tied in to this movie. 1. Who is "A" in the picture? 2. A is Peter Berg B as you probably figured out is yours truly This was Peter's first movie, he did a few more movies and did a tv series Chicago Hope where he played a Dr at a Chicago Hospital. He then went behind the camera and got into directing and writing. The movie that this picture is from has a lot of interesting tid bits. It was also the first big part for another new actor at the time, Kyle Chandler. Both Peter and Chandler's careers have crossed paths several times. The tv series Friday night lights Chandler played the football coach while Peter is the one who wrote and directed the movie Friday Night Lights. Well to wrap it all up, Peter was the one who wrote the screenplay and directed Lone Survivor. Small world, the pic is from over 20 years ago, those two went on to very succesful careers in Hollywood and I moved back here and raised a family, 2 out of 3 ain't bad lol. Just kidding, I wouldn't trade my family for anything.

Yea, it's really interesting once you know how everyone with Friday Night Lights is connected. The person who wrote the book Friday night lights is Peter Bergs cousin. Peter turned it into the movie and directed it. He then went and created the tv series and directed and wrote that and he called Kyle to take the lead in the series. Now since all 3 of us were all part of the same movie when we all got our first movie gig, I am still waiting for Peter to call me since he called Kyle lol. i think I will still be waiting for that call long after I'm gone lol. Some interesting things about that first movie. The actor Peter is talking to in that scene in the pic with me and him in is Michael Nori from Flashdance fame. He played the main character who was a football coach. His wife in the movie was Pam Dauber who I got to hug in the movie, and the assistant coaches in the movie were Dan Laruia (who played the father in Wonder Years tv series) and Reginald VelJohnson who played the father in Family Matters. We filmed this right after Die Hard came out. Dan, Reginald and I along with Kyle Chandler went to see Die Hard in the theatre, Reginald played the cop in the movie that befriended Bruce Willis via the radio, so when we went and watched the movie everyone in the theatre freaked out because Reggie was there ll, it was surreal.
January 20, 201412 yr Saw it last night with my son. First: Great movie. Very much akin to "Saving Private Ryan" for this generation as some have noted. Second: Wish the ending was kept with the true story. I understand with compression of time and events, a movie has to for the sake of the story "change some things." However to me the ending was just as important if allowed to play out. In reality Kuttrell struggled to crawl and advance some 7 miles from the fighting. He was found by Afghani villagers who took him in. However there was no Taliban invasion, threatened beheading, or American firefight at the rescue of Kuttrell. He was rescued and the villager, whose picture we saw at the end, did return with Kuttrell. Likewise, he never died and was resuscitated. One of the Taliban they were there to kill was not killed in the village. He died three years later when he was killed by Pakistani Police. One other thing bothered me in the film. The implication was that there were not enough Apache Choppers for air support for the theater of operations. While I assume that was the case and the problem was real, it made me remember how this and the Iraqi conflict played out. When Iraq opened up, it took needed resources from Afghanistan to Iraq. (Same experience in WW II between resources for Europe vs. Pacific) Made me have a lot of anger again about the Iraqi invasion and the timing of it. All in all, a great war movie about the sacrifice of these elite warriors. I'm glad I was introduced to their story through this film.
