Why are millennials leaving church? Try atheism

I've got a bunch of bumper stickers from a church across town that I'm gonna slap on some cars in our lot this morning as a subtle hint.

No, just lost.

But, like most people I hear use the words you used in post 58, you probably still went to a Christian church and believed in Jesus?

Not to pick on you specifically; I've just always been confused by that talk from Protestants. I consider myself a Christian. I may not be a born-again, massage-my-temples-when-praying type, and I may not go to church regularly, but that doesn't mean I have forsaken Jesus. It just means I don't go to church. That language you use makes it sound like you converted from another faith.

No problem, I didn't take it like you were picking on me. Sorry, I didn't mean to give that impression.

I went to church my entire life in a non denominational Christian church, but I never obeyed the gospel or became a Christian. When I was 16 I made the decision to quit attending. I wanted no more of it as it didn't fit in with the lifestyle I wanted to lead. I guess I didn't stop believing in Jesus, but I certainly was not a follower.

After marriage my wife was an example to me and she really led me to the point to where the realization of my sins had me under conviction. I knew that my sin separated me from God. So, I obeyed the Gospel. I repented of my sins, was buried with Jesus in baptism, and received the gift of salvation (my sins were washed away). The Lord added me to the church and it was at that point that I became a Christian.

I guess my point was, true Biblical Christians call these guys out as they aren't teaching true Christianity. They are trying to be popular or grow their church in anyway they can so they preach what they think people will want to hear and tolerate better. People, especially younger people today, don't want to be held accountable and some teachings will tell them they don't have to be or aren't.

I assume here that you are talking about theologians who have studied the actual Greek and Hebrew. If that is what you mean, then they are more likely to be less literal than most Baptist Lay people.

We obviously will never agree on this and I am good with that.

In short, I mean we are at a period in time where so information is available there will be a lot more "Free Thinking." And I said the beginning, 50 or 100 years from is what I had in mind for the "end."

True Baptist have always been about the autonomy of the local church and the priesthood of the believer. It is only since the 80s that we have the focus on non "Free Thinking" in the Baptist circles.

Not sure I follow you. I'm talking about the pastors/evangelists etc. that not only don't really preach from the Bible, but will actually go against what the Bible teaches. For instance, some preach that if you are a "good person" you will go to Heaven because God would not allow a "good person" to not enter Heaven. No need to be saved, baptized, etc. Some teach that there is no hell, and that hell actually means just not being separated from God. Well, in the end it's all God's decision to make and I guess he could change his mind I suppose, but done of the above is what the Bible tells us. That's what I was meaning in my post.
