July 7, 201313 yr That's what he gets though, way too cocky tonight. Very Alistair Overeem/Bigfoot Silva ish.
July 7, 201313 yr Author It is a sad way for a champion as great as Anderson Silva to lose. He looked like a clown with his hands down showing a lack of respect for Weidman's stand up and power. Silva has shown this ridiculous side in previous fights. He got caught by an elite fighter. No title, no pound for pound king, no superfights with John Jones or George St. Pierre- hopefully this lose refocuses Silva for a rematch. The problem is he is 39 and Weidman is only getting better.
July 7, 201313 yr I sat there and was just waiting for Silva to make his move and take him out. When he got caught, I just sat there mouth open and stunned. Apparently Silva said he doesn't want a rematch and he isn't worried about fighting for the belt anymore.

I'd bet he wins the rematch fight 5-6 more and calls it quits.
July 7, 201313 yr I still say we see a Silva/Jones matchup. Maybe even Silva/GSP. He was talking about it on the primetime show, was asked about Weidman's comments to Dana White that he was sorry in advance for ruining his super fights and Anderson said they would still be superfights no matter what.
July 7, 201313 yr Author Is a superfight a superfight if both combatants are not deemed super? Did Manny Pacquiao get a superfight with Floyd after he lost? Dana White makes more money on a superfight if Silva comes back and beats Weidman. I think we heard a lot of non-logical emotional response from Anderson after the fight. The only fight that makes sense for him is a rematch with Weidman. The scary thing is that Weidman kind of won this fight pretty easily- I'm not sure that a 39 year old Silva can beat an ever improving Weidman, even if Anderson is trying his best. Maybe Dana sees exactly what I see and he tries to squeeze out any dollars that might be left in a superfight with Jones or GSP.
July 7, 201313 yr At what point do you say Silva was clowning around? Before the first left hit him? I don't think there was clowning going on after that left to the chin. He looked legitimately woozy to me after that punch.
July 7, 201313 yr Author BTW, Nike needs to stop sponsoring fighters. Junior Dos Santos has a Nike deal and lost to Cain. Now Spider goes down. Hopefully, Johnny Bones is safe.

He looked legitimately woozy to me after that punch. No that was really just typical Anderson, he still had good head movement a couple of times after that until he finally got rocked with the big shot. He has used that type of fading head movement against Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar ducking under their numerous strike attempts. He was trying to do the same and got caught big time. Anderson has said before he doesn't do the taunting for the crowd or anything like that, but does it to get inside his opponents head. He wants them to drop their guard just enough to strike at the right moment, tonight though it definitely backfired on him. The initial shot didn't wobble him like he acted like it did he was just trying to bait Weidman, he wouldn't have still been able to have that elusive head movement if he was truly rocked. Only problem is after ducking a couple he ended up catching a hook to the chin with the third.
July 7, 201313 yr ^ I can see that. He did have good reaction and movement as he avoided a couple follow up punches. But the look on his face after the first punch looked like someone who caught a good punch. Did Silva say anything about it after the fight?

He looked legitimately woozy to me after that punch. There were fewer moments in the fight where Silva wasn't clowning than the other way around. He had his hands down, talking to Weidman, egging him on, moving back against the cage after he got off of it; it was disrespectful to Chris Weidman. The left I think you may be referring to is a perfect example. Silva pretended to be hurt by a left right before the closing series of punches by Weidman. Then, Silva was trying to bob and weave and moved right into the left from Weidman and got dropped.
July 7, 201313 yr He clowns to get people to stand and band with him....he crushes undisciplined fighters. Chael, Henderson, and Weidman made him look very bad when they wrestled and stuck to their game plan.....then their egos got in the way and they wanted to bang with him.......Weidman had a better reach and more power than Silva thought.

That's the main thing, he was trying to negate the ground game but didn't have enough respect for Weidman's standup. If he would have just came out and started the second round to fight I think he would have been alright, he was already in his head a little bit. But since he came out like that for the second he deserved what happened, you can do that for a little while but you can't do it the whole fight even if you are the best.
