Obamacare Implementation Delayed

Featured Replies

Does Obama even have the authority to delay the mandate or is it just another end run around Congress??

There is probably what is called a 'sweep clause' or a number of these in the law that gives them almost complete arbitrary and unilateral authority for changes.

The press won't report it this way but this is a huge admission of defeat by Obama. Having to ask Congress for billions more and along with the thousands of jobs that will be lost would cost the Dems. a bunch of seats in the mid-terms...

No defeat, Obama saw it wasn't going good so now what this all means is the employer doesn't have to provide insurance for the worker, but the worker still is mandated to get insurance by Obama care.

So it was a smooth exlax plan to make sure his dumb health care plan is staying. You still have to get insurance and pay out of your pocket or face a tax

Just had a meeting at work (Federal Express) yesterday to let us know because of the "new healthcare laws" my insurance for next year was going to be going up, yet again, and with less coverage.....I thought I heard the POTUS say when his plan goes through prices would drop, what a line of :poop:

Good info cammando! Another example that the ACA needs fixes and it is a good thing that implementation was postponed. The big issue I see is the 30 hour rule. What would happen if that were lowered to 20 hours? I don't see companies reducing worker hours below 20. Maybe the number is 25. Somewhere in there is a number that works.

I like the discussion that is happening. Republicans and others need to put pressure on to get these fixes done now. The best leverage they have is the upcoming elections. The problem for me is I don't want to hear repeal. Anyone pushing for repeal does not get my vote. I want fixes. The ACA is a huge step in the right direction. There are a lot of problems obviously, but I still take it over healthcare before ACA.

I laugh every time I get a call and someone asks me if the plans will be cheaper next year.

This was never advertised as a method to control/lower costs. "Obamacare" is and always has been about ACCESS to healthcare. And while I think that's important (far too many people go without insurance for a variety of reasons), healthcare costs have been steadily rising over the last 20 years. My first job in 1992, I paid $0 for insurance. A couple of years later it went up to $40/month, and I can still remember vividly being absolutely livid. I'm now paying over $400/month. Sure some of the recent increases can be attributed to the Presidents plan. Insurance companies don't know for certain how it's going to affect them, so it makes sense to raise extra revenue, "just in case". But the majority of healthcare insurance premiums are based on primarily, the costs of the healthcare they cover. It's fair to say that there are a lot of problems with the Presidents plan, especially the implementation and management. But to pin all the rising healthcare insurance premiums costs on the plan, isn't fair. Obamacare is a convenient scapegoat, but until we put the stupid political bickering aside, and realize that what we need is healthcare cost reform, not just access reform, nothing will change. Obamacare has only been around a short time....what do you blame the previous 15 or so years of rising premium costs on??
