Summer Baseball

Garrett Combs is the third. He pitched a complete game 4-hit, 1er win against the Colonels. He was not there foe the Bluegrass game.

Oh yeah, Eric hit a 3 run bomb in the top of the 7th to seal it!

You say this: been coaching high school baseball for 14 years,at two different schools. NEVER considered knothole a cancer!!! it simply is......what it is!!! not everyone is a select player. kids still need to have fun!!! god bless the coaches who give there time. no matter how much they know,or don't know about the game, they are needed!!! it seems a lot of people out here are EXPERTS of how the game should be played.since knothole seems to be suffering.....maybe some of you guy's can start coaching!!! i'm sure that would fix everything......lol!!! just a thought.

good luck to all the teams the rest of the summer season.

I'm a coach of a SWOL team. Also coached Knothole last year. The talent level isn't even close! Nothing wrong playing baseball for the love of the game. I was just saying if a high school player wants to get better they should be playing "select".

16U Ky Colonels 2. Edgewood (KY) Bandits 0. Game played as part of the 16U Kings Summer Tournament at North College Hill. CCH's Noah Galvin goes the distance with the 6 hit shutout, striking out 7 while walking only 1 and hitting 1 batter Of his 89 pitches 63 were for strikes. The Colonels were led at the plate by HHS's Lou Bunning with an RBI single and Dixie's Tyler Albert with an RBI double.

Dixie's Rudebusch went the distance for the Bandits, allowing just 4 hits over 6 innings and 2 ER. CCH's Bowman had 2 hits for the Bandits.

17U Blue Wave so far 2-0 in tourney in Greenfield IN

Run differential so far is 17 runs for Blue wave to 1 run given up. 7 different college scouts supposed to be at tomorrow's games. Hopefully I didn't jinx the boys.

f.y.i. some kids just aren't going to get better.just the way the world works.as far as players playing select, you got to have the talent!!!

you just don't put a kid on a select team, and he automatically gets better. somebody has to want that kid also. i think you know that.if anything,it could hurt that kid more.a BIG part of playing this game is confidence.if the kid loses that,it's going to be a up hill battle. the comment made that many coaches consider knothole a "cancer",sorry,i just haven't heard it from the coaches i know.to be honest, that quote is a little over the top for me.

cancer!!! .......really!!!!.... knothole MIGHT be a bit of a disappointment, but not a cancer. but,to each his own.

i apologize for that over sight sports guy. just noticed the original post was from reds 1921. sorry about that again.typing before i looked!!! a deadly combination!!! .....lol!!!

The whole knothole versus select thing, let it go already. Everyone knows that if a kid really wants to get better and excel in the sport, they need to go select. If a kid wants to plat ball, is not really worried about excelling to the next level and just wants to have fun, there is absolutely nothing wrong with knothole. My son started playing select years back because he/we knew that knothole was not going to prepare him to play high school ball. It was a tough transition to say the least. However, if he would have decided to stay in knothole and played his best and had fun all along, who could have said that he made a wrong decision. After all, as long as you're having fun playing a game, that's what matters, right?

That is where many of us beg to differ. A kid with the right mind set and coaches can get better and excel playing knothole. As already stated many excellent HS players come from knothole.Maybe the overall competition is better in select but to say a kid must play select to improve and excel is simply not true.

This is true. Kids can get better playing in either league. It depends on each individual kid.

I don't think anyone can say a kid can only improve if he plays select, I think the only thing select will do is present the kids with tougher competition only because better players seem to play select which means better competition

That is all and no fault to knothole.

It would be interesting to see the statistics of how many HS baseball players play(ed) in select programs vs. the knothole organization. I do personally know talented kids that have come from both programs. I know from my own experience that my son plateaued at a relatively early age in the knothole organization. Given the limited number of scheduled games he ended up playing an average of about ten games per year. Most of the other kids on the team had little or no interest in further developing their personal skills and were only there because it was the thing to do in the Spring. The coaches can only do so much for kids that want to develop especially when more than half the team has no interest. I finally came to realize that the knothole organization was more of a social program than a competitive program. We made the decision to leave the knothole program and find a spot on a select team. I am not aware of any kid from the knothole team that went on to play HS ball. On the other hand, 90% of the select kids did go on to play HS ball. To each his own!

Funny....from your avatar name, I presume you are a Ryle fan. Check with your STARTING regional champion 2nd baseman and shortstop and find out what KNOTHOLE team they played on until they got to Ryle. Also Deters was on a Knothole team too, coached by his dad. To each his own indeed! Just know what you are talking about.

ok...ok...this whole knothole versus select has run it's course for me. bottom line....know matter where these kids come from,it is up to us,as high school coaches to make them better!!!! END OF STORY!!!! but as i've always said about the kids i've coached, once they leave the program i only hope they are better people than ball players!!!! i think we can all agree with that. nice debating with all you gentlemen.see ya 'round the ballpark!!!!
