This reminds me of a few years back. There was a young lady who may be the best player to come out of this area ever. She went on to play a year at UK and set the SEC freshman HR record. She was voted All State at least a couple years. Funny thing is she was never on the 9th region teams. Apparently, the other coaches did not like her coaches and they would not vote for her. I may not have all the facts on this, but I know she was the best I watched in that time.

Not sure there is ever a perfect way to vote, but if this assocation wants keep giving out scholarships IMO they can do it how ever they want bc college tuition is crazy and ever dollor they gave away last night I am sure will help.

 

As far as Holy Cross is concerened I don't know why their coach didn't nominate players bc he just kept pushing the blame on other things when asked by the Ad. It is clear he knew and probably just forgot. I would have more respect for him if he would just say that instead of making excuses. I am almost certain that he didn't do it to hurt any of the girls. He is a very good person and just wouldn't do that. Rules are rules though, this is a guy who I Have seen take young ladies out of games in the middle of innings bc they did not have their belt...nominating players is more important than wearing a belt.

 

I would love to see the votes posted. You can't vote for your own players so there would not be any drama there. If a coach votes so poorly they shouldn't be able to vote the next year. You can argue all day if Haylee Smith is 1st 2nd or 3rd best player in the area maybe even lower than that but not have her in your top 10 means your doing it bc of other reasons or your just plain stupid..either way you don't deserve to vote. For Smith not to be on first team there had to be several coaches either leave her off all together or vote her really low.

 

Smith not being first team is crazy !!!! I would also like to see the votes from each team. I would guess there are some coaches who vote for weaker players to help their players out. JMO How does holy Cross coaching staff not get Moran on the list ??

Agree, Lee has done a ton of good things for the Holy Cross program. I'm sure it was something he simply forgot about, it could happen to anybody.

 

I don't know how any coach can simply forget about an opportunity to get his players recognized. It's not like he didn't have previous reminders and didn't know the deadline. He didn't do his job, plain and simple.

I think she led the SEC in Home Runs her sophomore year and is still the single season leader at UK.

We see in the Coaches Association All-Star team that IMO the two best players in NKY didn't even make the team.

 

The rules appear to be that a coach as to nominate his own players and then other coaches get to vote.

 

1. Why as a coach do I need to have another coach tell me what players on his team I can vote for? I know Moran is a dangerous stud player. I don't need the Holy Cross coach to tell me she's "on the list."

 

2. IF these are the asinine rules why wouldn't Holy Cross' coach nominate players?

 

3. You may HATE the way the Smith situation went down and how she ended up at NDA. You're going to tell me that you're not capable of being an adult and voting for one of the top 2 players in NKY? Come on.

 

4. I've always said that anything the coaches vote on is simply a waste of time. Partly because of 1 through 3 and partly because they're so busy they truly can't vote intelligently.

 

 

Any and all coach teams IMO are worthless.

 

Who would pick the all-star teams then? Not nearly enough media coverage for accurate selections. There are definitely some flaws, but what we have is as good as it is going to get.

Well any recognition a Fastpitch kid can get is good... No matter what the delivery. Definitly there were some a couple of big misses.. the Moran "non-nomination" and the Smith debacale. We haven't seen everyone but those two were obviously "First Teamers". I'm not beating that dead horse. I just thought ther may be a couple ways that would put some integrity in the process.

2) As with any voting process, if the coach fails in his obligation to provide his team's names, allow for write-ins.

 

This has nothing to do with integrity but what about scoring by position.. I agree with most that Pitching dominates fastpitch but as in another thread "add a Pitcher of the Year" award to help with that.

I love this idea, I don't think everyone needs to fall in order and vote the same way. But you can't have a for sure top 5 player on the second team several schools had to vote her way down or not at all. If you make the votes public I think a lot more good comes out of it than bad.

 

I would like to see the board of the coaches assocation take action on this matter and if a coach did not vote for Haylee Smith at all to have them suspended or removed from future voting.

I agree some but just like anything we have great parent coaches in or around the 9th and some not so great, (see HC who starts his grand kid when she wouldn't start if any other non family member in the world was her coach) There are non parent coaches that can be wonderful and some that are not, just the way things go.
