Danville 2013

Is it just me or does it sound like Hall of Fame coach Sam Harp and the previous staff left the Ad's in poor shape?

I'm not sure how much can be blamed on Harp and his staff. A sense of entitlement swept through Danville at some point after Kelvin Turner's age group graduated. For some reason the players felt like they should achieve without putting in the work the previous Ads had done to get where they were at. It seems like in the past the whole team bought into being Ads and playing with a pride that was unmatched. Nowadays you may have had less than 10 that had that pride. I really don't know what happened but that pride fell by the wayside and you could see the lack of effort in the players and their fans as well. Way too many quit coming to games, allowing their kids to quit or switch teams. There are people who work in the Danville school system and send their kids to Boyle County. What does that tell you? The program isn't what it used to be and the ones that truly care for the program are still around trying to rejuvenate it. I really don't know what Harp could have done to get things back to how they used to be when the fact of the matter is the Danville community doesn't care about the program like they used to when I first arrived to this area. A ton of work has to be done and hopefully Clay Clevenger can right the ship. If he can't, then trust me, the Danville football program will disappear for eternity.

I think Clay will do a good job, but that doesn't mean they will return to glory days so to speak. At this time the talent level is not great. A great example was the state track meet this year (very little from Danville). As far as folks sending their kids to Boyle, that has been going on for many years on both sides (It is a wash). This is a school and community issue not just a football or sports issue. Programs are not well supported. The school has too many activities and not enough kids to fill the needs in a lot of areas. Sounds gloomy, but anything is possible. GO ADS.

^ as an outsider this assessment seems to fit what I have saw and heard as well. Especially the entitlement part.

I'm speaking specifically of people who collect Danville school system paychecks but their kids are in the Boyle County school system. The Kelly kid and last I heard Coach Perry's kid was going to be going to Boyle County as well.

I am not sure about the Kelly situation. I do know coach Perry's daughter graduated this past year from Danville. I think the son transferred earlier this year. Some have told me that Perry will still be working with another sports program at Danville after football season and that he was asked to stay on the staff at Danville in spite of his son moving. I think he is well respected in the school by students and teachers. He is a department chair and has been very loyal to Danville.

That's pretty good on both Danville and Caoch Perry if that's the case. He has been loyal to Danville. Despite him not getting the coaching job it is good to see Danville still at least trying to make amends. Coach Perry is a better man than me. I'd have left immediately.

That is what I am hearing. The same kind of thing happened when Tom Duffy came to Danville. I still think he is part of the reason Danville had their big run. He came in with a tough mind set and demanded comiting to the program or stay at home.

I totally agree ThinThirty. Duffy established the level of excellence in the Admiral program that they had never really had before. (The Ads were always solid but won only one state title from '59 to '79. Duffy won in '84 in AAA and '87 in AA.

His first team was as good as some of the others in terms of toughness and running the wishbone. But for a couple of inches short in OT that team may have contended for the AAA title in '80.

That was my Junior year, after that loss to Woodford County we were clicking on all cylinders the last 4 games of the year. We got stopped on that 4th and goal and ended our chances in the play offs. If the playoffs were like they are now, we would have had the opportunity to move on and maybe challenge for the 3A title.
