The only reason I say that MLB should go back and overturn is because they blew it on the replay review. That is inexcusable, thus MLB needs to correct it.

I'm sure there will be others. I'm just saying they had an opportunity to correct it, and didn't...then the game resumed. If this had been in the 7th inning, would you replay from there? Are you going to re-allow a pitcher who pitched after the fact, to re-enter the game later on, just because the manager may not have used the same relievers in the same way?

Absolutely. What happened after the blown call would make no difference.

Clyde, I know you're always one to give umpires/officials the benefit of the doubt, and are an old school baseball fan. Do you feel based on the evidence that MLB should overturn the call, and have the game be replayed from the point of the blown call?

I'm stunned 4 guys looked at it and couldn't see it hit the rail. Thus, the question about the type of TV they were watching.

Just looked, the over/under on the game was 8 or 8.5 everywhere....Overturning the call makes any bets on the under a loss. :idunno:

I read that they see the same broadcast that the viewer sees.

 

They get a look from both broadcasts (home, away), plus maybe one more.

I really think MLB needs to completely clean house with regards to the umpires. Guys like Hernandez, Hallion, Joyce, West, Buckner, etc. try to be the focal point. It's out of hand.

This is why I say you take the review process out of their hands. Let somebody that doesn't have an ego about always being "right" make the call. The fact that Angel Hernandez made the initial call AND was the crew chief, didn't help. Even if one of the other umps saw it differently on replay, is he going to be able to overrule Hernandez?

Joyce is considered one of the best in the game. Yes he blew one pretty bad, but nobody is perfect. Not even in the same ballpark as this blown call due to the umpires watching several replays.

The difference between Joyce and Hernandez is that Jim owned up to it immediately afterwards, and was really shook up about missing the call. Angel issues some statement on a piece of paper?!?!? One immediately owned up to his mistake...the other basically denied any responsibility. I'll take Jim Joyce all day long.

MLB executive vice president Joe Torre says the judgment call by umpire Angel Hernandez and his crew "stands as final."

 

Major League Baseball issued a statement nearly two hours after Thursday's first pitch in Cleveland and indicated the call will stand.

 

"By rule, the decision to reverse a call by use of instant replay is at the sole discretion of the crew chief. ... It was a judgment call, and as such, it stands as final," Torre said.

 

"Home and away broadcast feeds are available for all uses of instant replay, and they were available to the crew last night. Given what we saw, we recognize that an improper call was made. Perfection is an impossible standard in any endeavor, but our goal is always to get the calls right. Earlier this morning, we began the process of speaking with the crew to thoroughly review all the circumstances surrounding last night's decision."

I've had the same thing happen to me on video games.....I was playing @ Wrigley Field....hit a pitch (the ball NEVER HIT THE GROUND), the ball carried and carried...went over the fence and was called a ground rule double....I have no idea how....Don't know if the ball hit the top of the chain link fence and bounced on over or what the deal was but the ball never touched the ground..went over the fence and was called a ground rule double instead of a home run....never seen or heard anything like that in my life....
