April 26, 201313 yr My problem with the pick is that the Bengals in recent years have had a poor record of developing tight ends. And let's not forget the coaching staff's blunder in the playoff game vs. Houston in zeroing in on Gresham in the first half rather than get A.J. off and running early. Eifert's skill set reminds me of Chase Coffman, and that's not a knock on Eifert because Coffman was a marvelous receiver in college. He just never had to block much in Missouri's spread offense. Hopefully Eifert is a better blocker. You made a very good point. Just because we may have a TE that could be similar to the Gronk, doesn't mean the staff knows how to use him correctly. Only time will tell. A true WCO utilizes the TE a lot especially in underneath routes, but if you don't use them the way they should be used you won't know if the pick will be another Gonk or turn out to be another Chapman.
April 26, 201313 yr I don't have that big of a problem with this pick. Gresham has been so so the last couple years and Eifert is a very good catching and blocking TE. Personally I wish they would of taken Shariff who was projected at #3. Peko imo is so overrated, he can't penetrate and is beaten off the line most of the time. Shariff and Geno in the middle would of been fun to watch. The problem I have is if the Bengals do what Mel Kiper expects them to do and that is draft Manti Teo with the first pick in the 2nd round. He reminds me too much like Rey Rey, a guy who can't get off the block when a lineman comes out to block him. Maybe we should stop talking about any of the other subjects we have talked about in the past, because it seems like we are thinking the same way on some of these things now. I completely agree with what you just said, and I would have been fine if they took Shariff too. Not to mention even though I am a Notre Dame fan, I do not want them talking Teo in the 2nd round. If they can get the safety Cyrprien with their first pick in the 2nd round and then a runningback like Bernard with their 2nd pick in the second round then I think they are in great shape so far in the draft. However please no Teo, only way I think about him is possibly in the third if he is still there. However in the third may be a time to think about the Honeybadger though if he is still there.

Once again completely agree. Hopefully the staff knows how to use him in the right way, if they do it could be a major boast to the offense. It should also help Dalton out a lot.
April 27, 201313 yr The success of the TE has as much to do with scheme and play design as it does with ability, IMO.
April 27, 201313 yr The world is coming to an end soon if Hellbird and futurecoach agree anymore!:scared:
