I'm thinking Bourbon County's 10-3 victory over Harrison County wasn't factored into this poll. The game was on April 9th.

Doubt if Manual being run ruled 12-0 by Butler on the 10th factored in either!! How do they get 52 votes?

Think Oldham Co. should be above Ballard since they beat them 5-1.

Last night's rain out of Male/Eastern would have been a great game and revealed what's what with those two. Hope that one is rescheduled soon.

Central Hardin should be higher.

Bullitt East should be a couple ticks down until they play some better teams, but I still like them.

I think the polls have to be turned in by Monday before the poll is released so if this is the case, this poll would not reflect any games played this week.

 

As far as your other insight, I have seen several of these teams play. Manual is a very good team, not sure what happened against Butler, but they are definitely worthy of a ranking in the 20 range. I have not seen Oldham County yet, however we all know you can not move a team in the rankings ahead of another team just because of a head to head match up. If that were the case, Holy Cross should be ahead of Oldham County. I have seen Central Hardin play and they are a good team as well. Again, in my opinion, they are worthy of a ranking in the 20 range. And I think Bullitt East is a very good team. Granted their schedule hasn't ended up being very tough yet but prior to the season it looked stronger with Dunbar, ACS, Ballard and Sacred Heart all early in the season. Now it hasn't proven to be real tough but they played Ballard close and won every other game. Plus they pass the eye test...they can play.

 

Can't wait for the Male/Eastern game either...

The best teams Collins has played in the current poll are Oldham County, Male, Central Hardin, Meade and Eastern. Took Meade to extra innings and led Eastern 5 to 1 til errors raised it's ugly head.

Is this a coaches poll, if so do any NKY coaches vote?

Big Daddy, it's the KSCA poll. Depends on NKY's membership in KSCA. Region 9 is the least represented in the state with only 4 HCs and 4 ACs being members.

Most of the coaches come from the Regions 3, 4 & 5, so that will tend to skew those votes to the central/western part of the state, as those coaches have seen, and are more familiar with those teams.

 

463DP, OC is, IMO, a much more complete and experienced team than Ballard, head to head match up aside. Both very good, but I think OC wins 7 times if they played 10.

 

DD told me there was scuttlebutt about Eastern's senior catcher breaking her arm Wed. night. Don't know the validity of this, and hope it is not the case. I hate to hear when any player suffers an injury like that. Wish they would have rescheduled last night's rain out for tonight. Heard Eastern may have not wanted to.

 

You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger BE fan than me outside of Bullitt Co., and many of those girls know it. As a fan, I WANT them to play a tougher schedule, because of what it can do for them. Their may be some coaches out there that feel the way I do, and are voting higher for them based on what they "can" be more so than what they have done, which is fair I reckon.

 

Male's next game is at Central Hardin. I have seen a little of them, and it is impressive. I know they have 12+ HRs so far this season. I'll tell ya more about them next week.

 

And as far as Manual goes, they wouldn't let me wear a purple hat with a big gold "H" if I didn't talk a little smack about the billy goats!!

Conner, Lloyd Memorial, Ludlow and Ryle are the four HCs from R9. I'd never even heard of two of those teams three minutes ago.

The fact that Madyson Moran probably will not be mentioned in Miss Softball voting, or be 1st team All State (never has been All State), is a travesty. No wonder, with only FOUR 9th Region head coaches members of the KSCA. If I am not mistaken, the dues to join are in the $10-$20 per year range. Moran is one of the few girls in Kentucky that will ever get FULL athletic scholarship to a Division 1 school for softball. There is a reason she has been playing for one of the top travel ball organizations the past couple of years, the Beverly Bandits. And I find it odd that once Haylee Smith no longer regularly pitched at Ryle, you seemed to never hear her name. Folks, Smith will also probably playing softball at the D1 level as a postion player and possibly a pitcher too. The NKY softball culture is behind many parts of the state and will continue to be until the culture changes. Is this the due to holding onto slow pitch longer than the rest of the state?

I don't see how Jenkins can have any votes for the top 25. They are 13-3 but they haven't played and beaten anyone worth mentioning and the good teams they have played they have lost to.

I can only think of one that I have seen in the state that would come close defensively, Erika Downey, a Jr at Mercy and a Murray St commit. I have heard she is hitting well right now.

Gallatin played them in All A State last year and handled them and Nicholas County (run ruled) with ease, while both teams were getting votes. Was very puzzling to me.
