Are there any players currently playing in the 14th or 15th region that you think can play Division 1 basketball?

I cant speak for the 14th but in the 15th Brandon May, Brad Lowe and Matt Maynard are the only three seniors that come to mind that would have a shot at it. I dont think any of them are getting looks although if they were it would be small D-1.

Cody Gilbert from Wolfe County is getting recruiting calls from D-1 schools. He has the size, range ,quickness and strength to play D-1

I am not for sure which schools. I do not follow the Wolves that well since they are not in our distrcit. The Lexington Herald Divider had an article about

Cody back a month or so ago and mentioned some of the schools of interest in Codys future uniform colors. I believe they were mid-major types.

Gilbert is a good player, but what will give him problems at the D-1 level is he is not tall enough at 6'3 to play the front court, and he's too slow to guard anyone in the back court. I see him more as a NAIA prospect. But he is a quality player, and should have a great college career....I just believe it will be at the NAIA level.

I don't think so...he may be 6'31/2,but that's about it.

Gilbert is a legitamite 6'4 player. And the comment about him not being quick enough, isn't that the job of the college coach to make him quicker. Also I remember you Professor saying that you thought Gilbert was about the 3 or maybe even 4th best player, do you still have that assumption. Gilbert is definately D1 material, maybe not the Kentucky and Duke of the worlds, but definately Eastern,Western,and Marshall type schools. He is a good player. Don't get me wrong. But I can't see him playing at Eastern, Western, or Marshall. Not at that level. Maybe Pikeville, Cumberland, Berea, Alice Lloyd, etc. He may get on the team at those schools, but I don't think he will see much action. However, he would be a big plus to a school like Alice Lloyd or Berea, and would have a lot of fun for his effort.

I am basing my reason on our 3 games with Wolfe County last year. Gilbert really wasn't a factor in any of those games, of which we won. Cody scored 9, 17, and 11 And you must realize that Owsley County is not exactly a D-1 school.

Our best player on that team, Tyson Gross, has just now (2nd semester) made the varsity at Alice Lloyd College.

He has scored in the 40's 4 times this year, with only scoring less then 20 one time, and that was against Knott County. If we was basing things on last year, then you really wouldn't think Lee County was the best team in the reigon either now would you. Again do you still think he is not the best player in the reigon. He is 2nd in scoring, 4th or 5th in rebounds in the state. Now tell me one other kid in our region or for that matter east of Lexington putting up those kind of numbers.

You do have a case. He is putting up some big numbers this year. But the 14th region competion is not what he will see at the D-1 level, and that's what this whole discussion is about.....whether Cody can play at the mid-level D-1 level. He may be able to do it, but after watching Georgetown this year, well....they could beat a several D-1 schools. The NAIA is a tough league. I just think Cody would be better off going that route.
