Fun ain't it? I'd rather turkey hunt than deer hunt any day of the week.

 

Yeah it was definitely different than hunting deer. Having gobblers call back at you is thrilling. I was definitely stoked with my turkey, but I would say I was more happy getting my first deer. I do think that I'm going to be a turkey season regular now, though.

My favorite thing about turkey hunts, you remember the ones you screw up as fondly as the ones you succeed on.

Took my first evening bird at 6:55pm today.... Beautiful sunset up high on the strip job, complete with strutting Tom putting on his show.

 

God is good and I am blessed.

I read about a crockpot earlier. How'd you all process your birds. We will cut out the breast meat, cut into strips, piece out, marinate in a favorite sauce like chicken ( hot, medium, teriyaki, garlic, bbq, etc. ). Deep fry or stir fry, whichever suits you.

 

I don't mount anymore, however, will freely share good ideas on beard and spur presentation. Message me with questions. Congrats again and happy hunting!

I was raised in Church and my Father has been a minister since the mid-70's. In other words, I was raised right. However, I fail to live the way I was raised. Even so, I never fail to give thanks immediately after a harvest. I can't explain how the Lord is involved with my hunting trips, but, he is there.

Great post and I certainly agree. I cannot get out to hunt anymore due to a permanent disability and I love reading about everyone's hunts. I never did get around to turkey hunting and now I am kicking my own butt for it. I was/am an avid fisherman and always would kid a life long hunting and fishing buddy that "I might turkey hunt but it's time to slay the bass as well and I am making them live hard". I was too stubborn to hunt in the a.m. and fish in the afternoon.

 

So....keep the stories up guys, I love reading them. :thumb:

Went this morning, heard one bird, he was the only game in town. We went to where we thought he was. He gobbled on his own and we were one ridge off, as he was over one ridge. I hit the slate, he responded, did it again and he responded, so we made the executive decision to go to that ridge and get in the same area code he was. Any veteran turkey hunter can tell you what's next. Yep, we got over there, got ready to set up, before we even sat down, he gobbled precisely from the spot on the ridge we made the calls from. Tried to get him to come back, no dice. Turkeys one, idiots zip, this morning anyways.

Followed the advice of a few and cooked my turkey breast (along with 1 whole onion) in the crock pot for about 24 hours... Excellent guys.

Not a lot of chatter here. Just like it was this morning. It was tough where I was. Running out of days to fill one more tag. Turkeys BEWARE.

Didn't have much luck. Had one hen stroll by but not much beyond that. Will be out there all day this coming Sunday. Also instead of buying a shotgun I decided to invest in a bow. I got a decent deal at Gander Mt. in Indianapolis. Will be practicing a lot over the summer. Seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Wish I had all day. Limited time Sunday makes for aggressive hunts and I have the perfect hunting partner for that style. Looking for a Sunday daily double.

I was in Gatlinburg this past weekend with the family. On a hike, we had a giant Tom walk right past us, within 10-15 feet. He Didn't pay us any attention at all. I guess it's because the are gets so many tourists, but it still made my dad brother and I collectively think "Are you freakin' kidding me?"
