Combs is a beast. period. Worth checking out for sure.

He got two fastballs right down central and hit them both hard. The game winning hit was an 0-2 fastball down the pipe which makes it hurt a little worse for Conner.

 

Both teams looked pretty solid. Worst strike zone I've seen in years. It didn't affect the result cause it was really bad for both teams but it kept the scoring pretty low.

 

BW made a good choice to throw off vs. a good fastball hitting team. BW's pitcher didn't throw hard and had a curve ball and Conner's hitters didn't adjust to the speed.

 

Nice win for BW.

 

Forgot to mention that Jason Suchanek had a nice game hitting it hard a couple times and solid at SS.

I don't get too excited when people promote Freshmen but I will say I was very impressed with the size and look of the kid when they played Cooper last night. I don't think he hit any "rockets" or anything but the pure size and athletic looking ability is impressive. Good luck to the young man.

Wonderbread.......I guess I'm wondering where anyone was saying they would be bad. Of course people will question freshmen, they do all the time. They have to prove themselves just like anyone else. I will still question freshmen until I see them have to face other teams 1 or 2's. That's not ever saying they were bad. Very good team, don't ruin it for them.

I know I questioned it in this thread, but I would guess by the description of the Beechwood pitcher, it would probably be Shumann. Don't throw real hard, but really has some good off speed stuff.

Freshmen like these two arent freshmen in experience. Has been beat to death, but the comp they have played in summer is simply the best in the country. Thats what some of us tried to explain. They have been prepared for this, and thus far are not only contributors but are leading the way hitting the baseball. Tigers only had five hits it appears. Combs two, Suchanek two and Stringer one.

The BW freshmen will be fine. Parents get excited when their young players have success. They are quality players and they have a quality coach. Don't judge them if you have only seen them play once. I saw them play the Florence Freedom 16u in the fallball championship. The freedom pitched a 15u pitcher against midland's 15u. Midland had also brought along Zach Shannon the #2 ranked 2014 player in the state of Ohio, the only 15 yr old to start for the 18u Midland Redskins. The Freedom ran away with the game. The Freedom had qualified 8th over all in the 16u national championships after pool play of the 100 teams entered. A quality team used to quality pitching. I didn't count out the BW players then and no one should now. With a little experience they will be successful on whatever level they play on. They have the talent, a little refinement and they will be a positive asset for BW's State run.

I don't remember anyone saying they would be bad. I did question if they were as goood as some were saying then why didn't they make the top 10 in the coaches poll.

I then also said not to put too much in any coaches pre season polls, Cooper proved them wrong also in Football this year.

 

I think they are a very solid team annd could have a nice run in the region this year after seeing them.

I am not ruining anything for anyone. I think this team could be as good as anyone by the end of the season. There was a 9th region or nky thread several weeks ago where some posters were flat out suspicious at best of Beechwood and Stringer and Combs specifically. Some even likened their experience to that of a local rec league.
