Students Told to Call 9-11 Hijackers “Freedom Fighters”

Featured Replies

An Advanced Placement World Geography teacher at a Texas high school who encouraged students to dress in Islamic clothing also instructed them to refer to the 9-11 hijackers not as terrorists – but as “freedom fighters,” according to students who were in the class.

LeBlanc said the students were told that they could no longer use the terms suicide bomber or terrorist. Instead, they were instructed to use the words “freedom fighters.”

“This teacher taught her that a freedom fighter is when they give their life for the Holy War – and that they’re going to go to heaven,” she told Fox News. “They were saturating these kids in Islam and my daughter is an American Christian child.”

During a lesson on Judaism, LeBlanc said the teacher told the class, “Students, I’m supposed to be politically correct and tell you that the Holocaust was not Genocide. It was an ethnic cleansing.”

I would be very surprised if Texas's school curriculum, or any states', requires teachers to say such things. The gist I get from the article is that the teacher was overembellishing to protest their perception of political correctness. I'm reminded of the South Park thread about teaching evolution.

Jinx.

In Texas they would hang him for statements like that! As Habib stated, No way Texas approved of this curriculum.

Also from the article:

John Valastro, the superintendent of the Lumberton Independent School District, told Fox News that the teacher did absolutely nothing wrong.

“What is more dangerous – fear and ignorance or education and understanding,” he asked. “From our standpoint, we are here to educate the kids.”

Put both of them on a plane full of freedom fighters and see how they feel then.

As I understand it they were teaching different cultures? While it can be upsetting to hear them referred to as freedom fighters I could understand teaching how they might be viewed in their own culture. I think it is very important to learn other cultures, both for peaceful and adversarial reasons.

Honestly, I don't even know what to say, so I'll say this: I'd like to thank that website for having it's primary text in grey so that it's darn near impossible to read. As if the drudgery of getting though that entire thing wasn't difficult enough.

Also, I don't know what the devil goes on in public schools, I've never been to one but... AP Geography? That's a thing people can take?

So that is what a freedom fighter is?

I believe General Patton just referred to them as 'poor dumb bastards'.

AP classes give kids the chance to take a test at the end of year where if the student scores a satisfactory score, that student receives college credit. It's not quite a dual-credit course in that it's not tied into any particular university, but gives the student an opportunity to get college hours.

I think everyone knows what AP is, I think Getslow found humor that it was tied into Geography.

I'm sorry there is no reason what so ever in the American public school system to glorify these terrorists. Call them what they are, they committed mass murder on innocent American civilians. Any teacher or adminstrator who shows any outward sympathy or support for an enemy of this country should have their postion at that school looked at very hard.
