Has anyone read this book? Im going to pick up a copy at the Sweet 16 just wanted to know what others that have read it thought of it.

I saw this book at Sams this weekend and almost bought it.

I picked it up at Barnes and Noble two weeks ago. The book is very well written and provides an intimate portrait of a team blessed with talent that came up just short of being great. The author does go in-depth with the frustration the state has with the government which irked me a little bit. Other than that I highly recommend the book, its a fun look at a controversial team.

The book is far from glorifying Scott County. Its a very fair look at the team and portrays them as they were, talented but never quite reaching their full potential.

It's actually well written from the perspective of how much pressure that team was under (because they gave the game away vs. Catholic by Guyn taking a horrendous shot up 1 with 30 seconds or so to go). What I would have liked to have seen is the author go into greater detail about the transfers. He touches on it but does not go in depth. A must read being as passionate as you are about high school basketball. Easy read as well.

I liked it because it really showed how much high school basketball means in Kentucky.... How in a lot of schools, entire communities know these players, and how much pressure can be on teams because of this... The good and bad side of all of it.

 

On the back cover, they say its the "Friday Night Lights" of basketball. I would agree with that....

A must read for high school coaches.

I met the author and bought a book, simply because I like reading about high school hoops. I may pitch it half-way through, but I'll give it a chance.

 

It is presently third in line behind "The Fifth Assasin" and "Vatican Diaries".

It's a great read. I read it in 2 days after starting. It doesn't glorify anybody, just tell the facts ... Including the kids questioning Hicks a couple of times for their offense.

Finished this on the plane today. Good read.

 

I must admit it makes me look more favorably on Coach Hicks. Admittedly, I should never really judge a person by the way they are on the sidelines. I've told many people that if you judged me by the way I used to bark at officials I'd have no friends.

 

Billy comes across as very human. Caring.

 

He helped Gelawn out. Had him over a few times to his house to eat dinner when he knew the family was struggling financially - even though he knew Mr Guyn wasn't a fan of how Billy played Gelawn. He also sent him nice clothes to wear when Gelawn went to the prep school for a year where coats and ties were required.

 

Plus just the way he talked to them.

 

It also points out that Euton is a great kid. Fans should be embarrassed at how they treated him while he was still in high school.
