Can You Throw With Your "Off Hand"?

Featured Replies

I couldn't if my life depended on it, although I can hit from the opposite side of the plate. I switch hit on and off through high school, but my college coach made me give it up. My dad on the other hand could throw with both hands. He severely broke his throwing arm in a work accident in his late teens and was in and out of casts for 2 years. He learned how to throw lefthanded so he could keep playing ball (although it was mostly one handed). He used to pitch to us lefthanded in BP when we knew we would be facing a lefthander.

One of my friends from high school hit and threw lefthanded, but did everything else righthanded...writing, punting, placekicking, eating.

I can do pretty much everything with either hand or foot BUT throw. I don't know what is different about throwing, but I have no problem with tennis either hand, golf, batting, soccer either foot, but there is a huge difference in my left (dominant) hand throwing versus my right.

My experience is that lefties tend to be able to use they right hand better than righties can use their left hand.

My brother is a lefty. From the time he was little my dad always taught him how to do things right handed. Well he became good at it. When he got older he was even better left handed as it came natural. But he was still extremely proficient with both.

I think most parents start out teaching their kids right handed.

I would consider myself ambidextrous.

Here's how strange I am: If I'm going to play a game of baseball/softball I wear a glove on my left hand/throw right handed. However, if I'm just going to toss something to somebody, I will throw it with my left hand.

When I coached baseball, I would throw to batters left handed the first time around in the cage and then right handed the second time around.

I do pretty much everything else left handed, except play golf. My Dad wouldn't buy me left handed golf clubs, so I just learned to play with what was around the house.

I'm a lot like you. Swing a baseball bat left handed, but a golf club right-handed. Throw left-handed. Eat left-handed. Write right-handed. Kick right-footed.

I can throw with my right okay. Couldn't throw it too hard, but could throw it with accuracy.

I not only can't...I can't even put on a shirt "left hand first".

I guess I'm ambidextrous when it comes to putting on shirts....

I grew up with a left handed dad, mom and older brother. By default I was made a left handler. I throw left, bat left etc. But think I should have been a rightie.

I am right eye dominate so I shoot a gun right handed, kick with my right foot.

Even saying that, I could not break a window with a brick if throwing with my right hand.

I'm kinda the same way but not because I was raised a lefty just how it worked out. I am right eye dominant, shoot a gun right handed, bat right handed and kick with the right foot but everything else is done with the left hand.

Learning how to shoot a bow was tricky.
