This was a good game tonight with some iffy calls going both ways. No team should put any blame on the officials. I thought the refs were bad enough to cancel any favoritism out. Both teams played below their capabilities but both laid it all on the floor. I honestly think Corbin played worse than normal compared to South playing worse than normal. That goes to show that the Hounds have improved over the course of the year. South is the better team but I think they have peaked with the others still improving. They may not improve but will definately give their all like any Steve wright team does.

 

The D tonight by both teams get thumbs up. Hammonds stepped up for South and Barley did for Corbin. I still stand by my statement in the prediction thread about Crawford being the best player on the floor. He may be a freshman but he is unbelievable. That said, he will make a few mistakes but overall, I wouldn't trade him.

 

I look forward to the next potentially two contest in the Region and District finals. I'm going on record saying that Corbin will win the 50th district tournament.

I think that goes to show just how good SL can be when they are really hitting on all cylinders.

Hammonds played very well tonight on both ends of the court. South Laurel used a box and chaser on Crawford with Hammonds doing the chasing and he was relentless to put it mildly.

Bold Prediction. Anyway South hasn't peaked, try playing three TOUGH games in five days with Lafayette North College Hill and Corbin.

Read my other post..... I agree, Corbin competed with SL and it was a lot closer then the final score indicated. However, seemed like everytime Corbin got close SL would turn it up and keep them at bay. This is not an excuse either, but this wasnt the best I have seen SL..... but give Corbin credit, I'm sure they had something to do with that.

 

 

I agree Corbin deseves credit, they played with a lot of energy tonight. They showed a lot of heart of the 1st quarter battling back like that, if Corbin continues to play like that, they can make a run in the region, and maybe play South again for the title. These two teams could meet up two more times.

I've been wrong many times before and won't be afraid to admit it if I am again. I just think that Corbin will pull it out if they get a chance to get em at Gilliam Gym again.

But what if Corbin's best shooter did not have what was probably the worst shooting game of his career? What if Swim had not picked up 4 chippy fouls and been able to play more minutes? Corbin played most of the second half with 2 freshman and 2 sophomores getting the majority of the minutes, so what if these young players continue progressing as the season goes on. What if Corbin was able to take and make more FT's?

 

I'm sure that South does not feel as though they played their A-game and I am certain that Coach P. knows that Corbin did not play anywhere near their best either.

I was in my vehicle outside listening the whole game almost, didnt pay much attention to the cats game. Maybe it was never in doubt they say, but Im looking forward to the next possible game indeed. Yep Crawford no doubt!

I also would like to add that it was good to see Former Redhound football player Derek Marlow in attendance and getting wild. :lol:

50th District Battle

 

There are too many people looking for excuses to why South played bad tonight, instead of giving Corbin credit for the way that they played.

 

There is a reason you miss shots, its called defense. There is a reason that South didn’t shoot so many lay-ups as in the first game, its called taking care of the ball and shot selection.

 

I thought this was the best defensive game I have seen Corbin play this year. They were able to contain South’s guard’s for most of the night and did a descent job rebounding.

 

Anyone have the total rebounds by both teams?

 

Most people felt that this game would be over at halftime. Corbin weathered the early run by South and battled their way back into it. In my opinion, the three before half time should have counted which would have added even more fuel to Corbin’s fire. Not the reason that the lost, by any means, but had to mention it.

 

The radio said that both Hamlin and Tate finished with zero points, which in my opinion has to be another positive for the Redhounds.

 

Coach Pietrowski commented on the radio “that he was pleased because he didn’t think that his team did everything perfect and they still were in the ballgame.” He added “If we would have made every shot, and played perfect on defense that this game would be discouraging, but he felt that there was still room for improvement”

 

I think that the Redhounds can take a lot of good things away from this game, and if they can continue to get better, could have a legitimate chance to turn some heads come March.

I totally agree with you 4CHS. By no means am I taking anything away from Corbin. The Hounds hung right in there with South. Another what if: If Carson Palmer didn't go down, the Bengals would have beaten the STEALERS.
