I can not understand the officating assignment for this game. One guy looked in shock most of the night. No way a lifetime little league offical should be calling a big district match-up. He gave Corbin a TO when they did not have possession of the ball and then an obvious basket that was waved off at the end of the first half. Glad to see both teams and fans not storm the court after these events. At any rate, it was an entertaining game to say the least.

I agree Les.... bold prediction by Hound82..... considering the last 2 contests SL has won by 30+ and 17. I dont think SL has peaked and I think come tourney time they will be hitting on all cylinders, unlike tonight.

There are too many people looking for excuses to why South played bad tonight, instead of giving Corbin credit for the way that they played.

 

There is a reason you miss shots, its called defense. There is a reason that South didn’t shoot so many lay-ups as in the first game, its called taking care of the ball and shot selection.

 

I thought this was the best defensive game I have seen Corbin play this year. They were able to contain South’s guard’s for most of the night and did a descent job rebounding.

 

Anyone have the total rebounds by both teams?

 

Most people felt that this game would be over at halftime. Corbin weathered the early run by South and battled their way back into it. In my opinion, the three before half time should have counted which would have added even more fuel to Corbin’s fire. Not the reason that the lost, by any means, but had to mention it.

 

The radio said that both Hamlin and Tate finished with zero points, which in my opinion has to be another positive for the Redhounds.

 

Coach Pietrowski commented on the radio “that he was pleased because he didn’t think that his team did everything perfect and they still were in the ballgame.” He added “If we would have made every shot, and played perfect on defense that this game would be discouraging, but he felt that there was still room for improvement”

 

I think that the Redhounds can take a lot of good things away from this game, and if they can continue to get better, could have a legitimate chance to turn some heads come March.

However, if we want to play the if's and but's game, then I would also say that by no means did SL play their best game either..... and they still walk away with a 17 point ROAD win.

 

I think Corbin is a very improved ball club...... however the next time these 2 teams will meet it will be tourney time...... and IMO SL is at their best when tourney time rolls around. Corbin may improve and play their best game against SL when the district tournament rolls around...... but I am a firm believer that SL will be playing their best ball then too, and I will take SL at their best vs Corbin at their best any day of the year.

If South Laurel plays as well as they can every night, then the 13th region tourney is just a formality. When you have to play 3 games in 5 days there is always the possibility of a bad game mixed in their somewhere, but it will take the combination of South not playing their best along with someone else having a very good night to pull the upset.

 

All you can ask for is a chance and hopefully the Hounds will get two more chances to beat the Cardinals.

Looking at the stats would suggest that South played much closer to their A-game than Corbin did to theirs'. I believe that just about everyone has stated that it will take an off night on South's part to lose, but I remember several times that the exact same thing was said about South Laurel in the 12th region only to have someone else wear the crown in the end. The big difference that I noticed between the two meetings is that most of the Corbin players were not intimidated this time around, which made a big difference. Now they need to relax and hit the shots they normally make and maybe that will erase some more of the deficit the next time they meet. But your right in the fact that South is definitely the Giant of the region, but maybe someone with a slingshot will have a very good aim and knock them off.

Corbin is ranked anywhere from the fifth to the seventh best team in the region, so I would think that several teams would have a better shot at beating South than the Hounds. If they go into the game believing that they can win and they go out and compete, several have a chance.

If Barbourville comes to play as they did in the CFIT, I see no reason that they cannot compete with South Laurel. They have the experience, size and talent to do it and must play an extremely smart game, but Dinky has pulled off some upsets in the past when he had a lot less talent on his side.

I think if a team that's going to beat South in a tournament atmosphere is a team that has team leadership, a good and experienced coach and senior leadership.

They still have a lot of work to do to reach the level of South Laurel though, but that is why bringing North and South to the region will be good for the 13th.
