I'm pretty sure they take the total number of schools in the state, divide by two, and the schools that fall in the lower 50% are deemed eligible for the All "A".

I think they take the smallest 125 schools now.

When the tournament went statewide in 1990, the Class A football numbers were used.

If they would simply drop the "All-A" from the title, this wouldn't be that big a deal. The Touchstone Energy Classic. Boom, problem solved. Invite whomever the heck you want.

The panel will then decide, with the final recommendation slated for implementation in 2016. Should the panel not be able to come to a majority opinion, the impasse shall be broken by spindoc.

How many schools with an enrollment of 500-700 have won their regions in the past ten years. It isnt many. If anything they should incude more schools. With the exception of eastern kentucky you rarely ever see a school of this size in rupp.

The cutoff is the smallest 120 schools in the state, by enrollment. That changed this year after much outcry from the smaller schools about the fact that the All A Classic has been dominated in recent years by those schools closest to the cutoff point. That point had trended up into the 130s in recent years. Bardstown was barely included this year, and won't next year, as a result.

Bardstown has won the 5th Region twice since 2008. They were in the 500-550 neighborhood in 2008 and are at 630 now (they won most recently in 2011).

 

University Heights, the most dominant team in All A history, is not a stranger to Rupp. But you are correct, somewhat. In certain regions, there are strong smaller schools.

 

Yes, in the 15th Region, all of the schools are fairly small, so a good team generally by default will win that All A region. In the 14th it's usually going to be somebody like Hazard, but hasn't in recent years as larger schools (who Hazard regularly beats/is competitive with) have won. Barbourville tends to be the best small school in the 13th, at least in boys, and is usually competitive with Corbin and the rest. Danville and Somerset duke it out in the 12th, and generally compete for overall region crowns also. There are good smaller schools in the 8th, but they only frighten the bigger schools and never make it to Rupp.

 

But other than the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 11th regions, where Kentucky's largest cities lie, those schools that compete in the All A Classic generally have a puncher's chance at making it to Rupp. In the power regions, though, they have no chance against the Ballards and Warren Centrals and Henry Clays of the world.

I don't think Knott really cares one way or the othe. I don't think the boys team wanted to play in it this year, but the girls did and their officials told them if one team played in the tournament that the other one had to play too.

That's more complicated that working out a college football playoff system, lol. But Spindoc is the guy that could do it.

Not sure why KCC wouldn't embrace the "A" - it would be a major accomplishment on their resume to win this prestigious tournament, as the sophomore dominant squad continues on their road to success.

I agree. And they may well embrace it. I was told by some of their fans what I posted above, but that may nit be the KCC official stance.

It's a great tournament. Our school has been region champs 4 times and was runner-up to University Heights in Memorial Coliseum in 1990 (and our Jeff "Moose Moore was MVP). It was a wonderful experience and was our first state tournament of any kind for our school.

I too agree, Mustang. I was present for all 8 games on Friday and it was an awesome atmosphere. Really like the venue, not a bad seat in the house. Total head-scratcher why a school would not want to participate. :idunno:
