However, I must respond to his oft-stated dig that Beach's team beat Mayo "when it mattered". I assume he is referring to the district and regional wins in 2002. I would not completely disagree with him but would add that no one at Rose Hill would trade the wins at Ashland (December 15, 2001) and the "Mayo Miracle" (January 5, 2002) for either of those other games. History shows that Ashland played Lexington Catholic in the first round at Rupp Arena that year so their trip was cut rather short. It is unlikely that Rose Hill would have fared any better against Lexington Catholic in 2002.

While that can be argued, it is also true that Ashland, in determining the district seed in 2003, in reality, forfeited two games to Rose Hill since Ashland refused to play them as required by seeding. Thus, Ashland, in determining the seeding order in 2003, was charged with two forfeitures to Rose Hill.

 

Therefore, since we can all spin according to our particular loyalties, I would contend, and rightfully so, that Rose Hill was 5-3 against Ashland during those two years.

I just noticed something. You actually remember the exact dates of RH's two regular season wins over Ashland?! Man, that is a sharp memory! And you honestly dont think that RH fans would trade 2 regular season wins for a District Title (which RH has never won) and a trip to the Sweet 16, which would have resulted in back-to-back trips....I dont know about that, you may be correct, but I think that could be pushing it. Not like it matters anyway, just fun to talk about the good ole days...

AT41, you must look at the series from the eyes of a Rose Hill fan rather than as an Ashland fan. Rose Hill had never remotely been compeitiive with Ashland. I entered Anderson Gumnasium on that December night thinking that, if Rose Hill lost by 15 or less, it would be a good night. I think that thought was shared by others. To win that game on Ashland's floor was a complete shock to everyone. It also started the animousity and the distrust between the schools. The game in early January, with Rose Hill winning on a last second three by Mayo, was true Hollywood. Unfortunately, it multiplied the animousity and the distrust that continues to this day. Ashland supporters and those close to their program were poor losers. Their counterparts at Rose Hill, me included, were equally poor winners. Thus, the wall was built and has, in all honesty, probably seen an extra row or two of stones added to in since that time.

 

District and regional titles were not really a serious consideration then because they never had been considerations before. Remember that we did go to the regional for the first time that year anyway. It would have been nice to win the region but facing and beating LexCath in the first round at Rupp Arena was going to be "mission impossible" for anyone from our region. No, AT41, I don't think anyone at Rose Hill, then or now, would trade either of those first wins over Ashland for the district or the regional championship. If you think about it, I'll bet you will see and uinderstand my point.

AT41, I thought that you might be interested to know that Tubby made a trip to Huntington last night to see Mr. Patterson play. The Cats have yet to offer a scholarhip, but he has been getting plenty of phone calls from Tubby and David Hobbs. Patterson will make a vist to see the Cats play Arkansas on Sunday.

Aminu Timberlake, Carlos Toomer, Myron Anthony, Oliver Simmons Chris Harrison are just a few of the players that I could list that were flops during the Pitino era. I could name several more. Does that mean Pitino can't recruit? Patterson is a highly recruited prospect. You're missing the boat on this kid.

Ya know, now that I think about your right. On the radio they said that Patterson averages like 13 ppg, while McDavid is more like 18 ppg. I also dont remember Patterson scoring 43 this season. Thanks for bringing that up Hoops #1. I dont think Patterson was an All-State DB either... :thumb:

Miller is not a superstar, but he is 6.8 and you would probally have a winning record with him on the team

I have to echo the reasoning of shooterx3 here.

 

Granted, Miller may not be the most athletic "hulk" to suit up in maroon, but he is a load in the paint, and at the very least he would free up Drew McDavid to play a position more suited to his physical gifts, instead of getting pinned in the post for three or four quarters.

 

Miller is skilled enough to average 10 ppg and 10 rpg in the 16th region. His addition to the Cats would add another 10 ppg to the Thomas/McDavid combo.

 

With Miller, Ashland goes from squeeking by to contending IMO.
